This is on a 2007 Civic LX. I am wondering about the purpose of this bracket. Is it really necessary and what purpose does it serve. All replies are appreciated.

I see that there are several views and no replies. Maybe there is confusion about what I called the torque thing. The factory service manuel refers to it as the torque rod. I hope that makes things a bit more clear and I can get some valid responses.
Thank you in advance.

Honda put it there for a reason... it is likely because there is only ONE mount supporting and controlling engine movement on that side... that bracket will help with the latter. It could also be to reduce NVH. Your pic doesn't show how it is attached nor it's entire shape... better pics may be helpful. WHY do you want to remove it ?
Thank you for your reply. I understand that Honda put it there for a reason. Now, I don't want to sound like an A-hole but apparently with all your fleet, you have no experience with 2006-11 1.8L motors. I am attaching an edited excerpt from the Service Manual and a rendition of the bracket itself for your information. As you will see, the torque rod has three attachment points. One at the fire wall and two at the top of the passenger side mount bracket that also attaches at the front fender area location. So, there is more than one point of the torque rod to be attached. Now, if you look closely at the originally posted image, you can see the bracket/spacer I speak of right there where the 17mm socket is (hence the attached rendition). I'm also not sure what you mean by "NVH". Regarding removing it.....upon replacing the mounting system, I found that the bolt that goes thru the bracket/spacer would not tighten and therefor could not be torqued. Upon removal of the bracket/spacer, the bolt would tighten and torque to the requited specifications.
I am very familiar with the 8G Si engine bay... my wifey owned a 2008 Si (FA5) for eleven years and then passed it down to my oldest grandson who drove it for nearly five more years. We loved that car. I have no experience with the SOHC 1.8L "mundane" versions of the chassis. NVH refers to Noise, Vibration, and Harshness... many mounts and brackets within the engine bay of all Honda/Acura chassis have bolt-on "weights" that counter/offset these potential NVH dynamics. Removing them may introduce some or all of these bothersome phenomenon. You can test the waters by removing the plate... and if you do not notice any ill effects, you can leave it off.
Interesting that you should mention the weight, I was just texting my friend who was helping me work on it and I said "As much as I hate to, I'll call Honda tomorrow. Maybe they'll tell me it's some type of harmonic balancer or some ****.". We will get the lower torsion bar replaced this weeks end and see how it goes. Because the original bolt will not tighten I'm looking for a longer one if that will resolve that issue as I feel that the reduction in size of the bolt tip may be the issue. We shall see.
