Default transmition problems

hello i have a 05 civic ex auto. i have been having a problem with it not shifting into the next gear. i can drive it for a while and when i stop then go it will not shift into 2nd gear and i just watch the rpms go up. i stop the car and turn it back on and my check engine light is on and it shifts normally. i took it up to autozone for them to check the car and they said it was the tps (throtle pos sensor)? can anyone help me out on this?

i can see how the computer might think youre holding the gas pedal down more than "normal" and it allows the engine to rev higher to increase power.
