Hi,
I have a 2001 Honda Civic LX, (1.7l SOHC) made in Canada, model with mileage 110000. Bought it for $5000(was single owner and 104000 mileage), in Nov 2012, have been driving for 1 yr 3 mo. Spent 1000 on front suspension, belts in summer
It was running fine, just a few days ago in the morning it started making some squueching noise only in the morning (for a few sec , 10 seconds), then it would go off. I thought it was because of very cold weather in Boston, MA.
But all of a sudden 2 days back, howmuchever i throttle it wouldnt run, i put it to 3rd gear, and drove it to nearest mechanic. He told it needs Transmission replacement.
Can you please give me your advice, as what all options i have and approx cost.
After going online and talking to that mechanic - 3 options
1. Replacing with used one
2. Rebuild
3. Replacement
Can you please say how much i should pay(approx range) for rebuild &/ replacment.
Everything else in car seems fine. Is it worth.
Can i get sell the car as is now, how much can i expect?.
any kind of advice /suggestion is highly appreciated.
Thanks

Low enough mileage to justify replacing the tranny. Just replaced mine with approx. 200k miles on it. 7-8 hrs labour plus cost of used tranny, so most of 2 grand....

Thanks Reif! Appreciate ur time and suggestion
Hav taken the car to AAMCO for second opinion, and waiting for quotes.
Yes 2000 i can think abt it, but if more than 3000 looks its no worth doing it. What do you think.
Thanks

Go to a local garage they should be able to find u a trans and installed for about $1000
If they charge u more then ur getting ripped off
Many shops here in Canada labour rate 80/h most shops charge 7hour to re and re trans

Finding a good used one is a better option in most cases. As a professional, AAMCO is not a reliable rebuilder. Even thought that is their specialty, they do **** poor work, and over half the transmissions that the last dealership I worked for sent them, came back with major problems.
