Default D Series Cyl. Head Swap

I Have an 04 LX 1.7l Non Vtec and would like to get about 20 more hp out of it. I have a donor 03 ex with a 1.7L Vtec. Im fairly certain I can achieve 20+ hp with a head swap, stage 1cam, intake, header and exhaust combo. Anyone know which components I will have to cannabalize to complete the swap and how much MPG will I loose with the swap and bolt ons, I do enjoy the 44 MPG that I currently get.

Look in the FAQ's for the thread on swapping the head. As for power, you'll get around 15 or so wheel horsepower with all you're looking to put in to the car. For fuel economy, you'll probably sit around 38mpg or so after the work. But, that all depends on how you drive.

Thanks toyomatt84, found a good thread here for exactly what I wanted. I am a little disappointed with your MPG estimate but thats the trade off.

I averaged 37mpg with my D17A2 before I removed it. And I wasn't pushing it hard at all. You have a slightly taller gearbox, which will help you in fuel economy.

To be honest, with the market in Europe and their turbo diesel offerings, I can totally relate. I have no clue why we can't benefit from their turbo diesel market. They've got the VW Polo Bluemotion getting 80mpg (non-hybrid)... why can't we?

Our EPA has a select number of tests that, for some odd reason, many manufacturers don't try to pass with their turbo diesel platforms. I do not know much on the subject, as its not something I can alter. Its really annoying, though.
