Default Headlight problem

Hope someone can help me out here.

The headlight on my drivers side is "dim".

I was told that this is a bad ground. I have checked the wires and all are in good shape. The plug itself is getting power. I swapped bulbs, and tried new ones. Still same problem.

So I soldered another bigger piece of wire to the ground wire on the plug and attached to solid ground, this made the light a little brighter, but by no means the same as the passenger side. I tried other ground locations but no real difference.
I have also noticed that the high beam indicator light in the dash glows faintly, you wouldnt notice it in the day if lights were on.

Any ideas?

Did you check the other light bulb to see if it was properly connected?

What year is your civic, because their is a headlight switch recall on early 01 02 civics.

Safety Recall: Combination Light Switch

(Supersedes 04-015, dated March 26, 2004)

BACKGROUND

A terminal in the headlight wire harness connector can
overheat and may cause the low-beam headlights to
fail without warning. Although the high-beam position
remains operational, an unexpected loss of low beams
could result in a crash.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace the combination light switch, the RED/WHT
wire in the headlight wire harness, and if needed, the
16P headlight wire harness connector.

PARTS INFORMATION
Combination Light Switch Repair Kit:
(Includes switch, wire harness connector, 250 mm
wire with an attached terminal, and wire splice
connector)

Civic: P/N 35012-S5A-307, H/C 7743875

Insight: P/N 35012-S3Y-306, H/C 7743883

you need to go as far as you can to the battery,

because somewhere there wil be a power drop, and wherever that power drop is, you should be ab;e to know what it is, like a wire crossing there or a relay is there or something.

it's a pain but sometimes the only way.
