Engine Light on dash
My engine light on my 2004 Honda Civic came on (the pict of the outline of an engine on the dash). My mechanic told me I had a bad Throttle Position Sensor. In CA costs $420 bucks to fix. Does any one know if this can be done easily or is it a major job? The Honda dealer told me I need to replace the entire throttle body when all I need is the sensor.
The TPS is riveted to the throttle body, so unless you have a means to which you can mount and adjust an aftermarket TPS, you'll want a replacement throttle body.
The emissions warranty for that part on your vehicle assuming it's not a GX or HX is 3 year 50k. The entire throttle body needs to be replaced. The sensor is not available seperately and is not adjustable after factory installation. If you were able to get one and install it, you would need to watch the feedback signal and try to achieve about .49 volts with the throttle plate closed and engine idling.
