Default difference between d17a2 VTEC and d17a6 VTEC-E?

Maybe I just suck at searching...but what is the difference between these engines aside from HP and MPG? Basically I have an HX with the d17a6 right now and need to replace the engine. I'm wondering if I can drop in the d17a2 and then just move some parts over to make it work?

thanks

Some people say that the VTEC mechanism is identical in both cars and that what gives you more power in the EX is the higher compression, different exhaust manifold, different cam maybe? I'm not 100% sure about this. Maybe someone else can confirm.

I think a lot of the differences have to do with the computer running the show. The heads are the same. I dont know about the bottom ends, but the major difference seems to be the tuning.
