Default D17A2 turbo build help

Greetings!

I'm from Brazil and I'm rebuilding my D17A2 (D17Z3) turbo... What I will use:

- CP 75.5mm pistons 8,8:1 CR
- K1 Technologies RODS
- ACL Race bearings
- 9lbs Flywheel
- Racing Ceramic Clutch
- GTK-350 Turbonetics Turbo
- Custom Exhaust for the turbo
- D16 Intake (iron)
- B16A2 Throttle Body
- Stock Stroke (94,4mm)
- Stock Head (for now, of course)
- ARP Head Studs
- Cometic 76mm MLS Head Gasket
- Darton Dry Sleeves
- SuperTech Block Guard
- Quaife LSD 1.5WAY or GENERIC HELICAL LSD
- Stock Transmission
- Eibach Suspension
- Custom Intercooler (16'')
- Custom aluminium intake pipes
- ETHANOL GAS (here we have it in any gas station)
- PowerEFI (www.powerefi.com)
- Molykote coating for everything

I would like to know if you could advice me in any mistakes I might be doing or if this setup is OK. How much power can I expect? How much boost can I use?

Thank you all very much for your time!

You won't find those limits until you get it tuned. Why PowerEFI for management?

The guy who is going to tune my car is a dealer for Motec, AEM and PowerEFI here in Brazil, and he said it would be a good cost effective solution. What would you recommend, friend, and why? I am open to new ideas before putting all together...

I'm curious more than anything, as my knowledge of PowerEFI is virtually nonexistent.

I'll be glad to provide information as soon as my tuner installs it
According to him, this is a great cost effective choice for a great fuel management system, developed by a Motec engineer...
There's some information about it on www.powerefi.com ...

Didn't see any Hondas using it yet...

There may be a reason for that. From what I've read, I'd recommend Hondata's Kpro. It seems to be the only solution for a "reliable" and user-friendly setup.

Kpro is for k-series motors... the best for that setup is probably hondata s300 or chrome pro

The fact that this PowerEFI is relatively new may be a rason for not beeing widely used yet... I heard a lot about K-pro for D-series (and for K series too), but Hondata seems to be the most used one...
Any friend using the Hondata or K-pro here with lots of boost?

K-Pro can also be used on the D-series.

I know the mantra "If it's on ebay, leave it there", but it's very difficult for me, here in Brazil, to buy items from stores. There are few that do overseas shipping. It's a hassle to get one... So I would like to know if someone knows any eBay seller that sells the K-Pro for my D17A2 engine or, at least, if someone can point me its part number...

Thank you very much!

Ok first...You dont need B16A2 Throttle Body...you can still use the d17 or d16 on the d16y8 mani...2nd I dont see any managment system. You need K-Pro, AEM EMS, AEM F/IC, ect. you didn't include wastegate..internal or external....Blow Off Valve...you also will need bigger injectors...I would also say that you go and get a camshaft and gear put in when you do all this work...I am currently running 7.5 psi tuned with the F/IC...I am at around 212whp...I am running the RSX Type-S injectors right now. They are 310cc the stock injectors on our cars can only handle 2-3 psi. I also got a set of the Srt-4 injectors they are 577cc. For when I run 10 psi. So if you are trying to run higher than 8 psi get the SRT-4 injectors...

Power EFI???? what in the world is that..I have had my 04 civic since well 04 and never heard of this tuning system..you say its new..well if you got the money to do all this and you want max. power I would def tel you to go with K-Pro..it is the more reliable and tuner friendly our cars. You can't use s300 or crome on OBD II...so EMS or K-Pro but with the cash K-Pro will def be the best bet.

This might be a dumb question but why are you running ethanol (85 octane right?) Shouldn't you be using 91 or higher?

If you are boost'd...No matter what you should use 93 or more....if not you have a lot higher change of detination and we all know how that goes for a boost'd d17...with the price of gas dropping do yourself a favor and run 93 all the time

I think you're getting the "85 octane" from the fact that E85 is 85% alcohol and 15% gasoline.

Ethanol actually has a much higher equivalent octane. It's usually in the ballpark of 100-105, I think. Not quite race fuel, but pretty damn good for high-compression or high-boost engines.

Can I use a D16 LSD in my D17A2 instead of the Quaife one?

Thanks for the info. But, are the differences just internal? If I get a D16Y8 tranny, can U use it with this LSD in my D17?
