Default Why do people do this!?

My hood is flat black, spraypaint job I think. Previous owners friend did it for some obscure reason. Decided to try wetsanding down to the original paint under it today, and got some results, but it wasn't worth it. Spray job was so uneven that I'd be hitting red while still trying to get through a thick patch of black in the middle of that spot. Way too time consuming to get it even. Paint was completely fine under it! I'll just respray it...

Look at my beautiful hood

Started sanding, they even sprayed over the emblem

After polishing with some heavy compound and lighter polish on this one spot..

I want red!

A LOT of wetsanding will get you your red back, go slow and be careful. It's not too thick, looks like a single spray job.

Yeah, way too much effort to sand the whole hood carefully. My friend and I are gonna be spraying my bumpers and trim this weekend anyways, and the hood. Just wanted to see if it was actually salvageable.

It will still have to be sanded off. Painting over spray paint is not a good idea.

If I'm repainting it, at least I dont have to take my time and do it as slowly and carefully as I would if I was just sanding the black spray off.

I've been informed that paint thinner + plastic razorblades work work wonders against spray paint. I'll post updates tomorrow!

i've been asking myself that question for the past 8 years. I still dont know why people rattle can their whole car. One guy said that he bought a body kit and replaced a fender, none of the colors matched so he primered the whole car. idiot.

also, why do people paint oem wheels? trying too hard

because they don't like the colour?

I'd watch out though, you might find the reason why the hood was painted black in the first place (and that would suck after all that work)... if the hood actually ended up being perfectly fine underneath, then yes.. the original owner = dumb

Used 600 for the first part because it was so thick, then went to 1000 and 2000.
