If you have a CEL then VTEC will not work.

And turn off the caps lock for god sake.

Nope, the ECU wont let it engage as a precautionary measure.

my vtec oil pressure switch was broke off, check to see if yours is in tact...you can look it up on majestic honda and get it there or advance auto parts will order it for you and itll cost $50...oh and they will think its a part that costs $7 bc there [freak]ing idiots...but trust me it costs $50 and its called an oil pressure swith assembly for vtec....

good luck man, its really easy to change btw and once its done....HONDAAAVTEC!!!!

Where did you read/learn that?

Just because the CEL is on doesn't mean that it's in back-up mode. (aka limp mode)

I would have to say his VTEC is not working properly because there is a problem with VTEC itself. That would be my guess as he is throwing a code 22. He didn't say his VTEC wasn't engaging. He said it would bog down as his RPMs went higher. Lack of oil pressure maybe?????

Low oil pressure or a dirty oil screen in the pressure switch could be why this problem is occurring. Have you changed your oil lately?

Before you go out and buy a new pressure switch check your oil. Make sure it is the proper weight, that it is clean and up to its proper operating level. Once you have checked that remove the VTEC solenoid/pressure switch and clean the screen that fits between the switch and the head if it needs cleaning.

After that there are some electrical tests that you can run. It would help if you have a manual that shows the testing procedures. There are a few different ways of obtaining a manual.

I dont remember where I came across that, I'm pretty sure I read it here. I'm not saying hes in limp mode, but it was my understanding that as long as you have a CEL then VTEC wont engage.

I have a H22 swap in my 95 accord as well and an intermittant EGR CEL code. When the light's off, Vtec hits great... when light's on, Vtec hits but it's a little more boggy as well.

I too have a VAFC so I'm thinking the VAFC helps.

But is it correct that if the Pressure Switch light is on, that's the thing that disables Vtec?

I'm not 100% that Code 22 actually disables VTEC. I do know that it certainly means that there is something wrong with your VTEC pressure switch. Be it electrical, bad wiring or mechanical low oil pressure.
