Default Steering column problem?

Hey guyz, my cousin has a problem with her 90 accord and I'm not quite sure what the problem is, so I'll relate what I've got so far from looking at it. I recently looked at the car and 1) to steer the damn car it takes great amount of energy (almost like a non power steering car) but then again its more difficult than that. As I turn the steering wheel to the left and right, its free from 10 o clock to 2 o clock but when I go past either way from the 10 and 2 it stiffens up. I'm guessing the steering column is bent some how, although I don't know how that's possible, or would it be something dealing with the power steering? Any advise/ words of wisdom will help. I'm un experienced on this part of fixing a car, so please help. Thanks.
