Speedometer and tecometer aren't working
Hi I have driven a 96 honda accord LX for 3 years now and for the most part other then normal matance and replacing the starter and a thermostat and the valve gasket there have been no problems. Tonight I got get gas everything is working when I turn the car off. I turn the car back on and they are still working for about a block. The rpm gauge shot up to 7 (the car didn't really over rev it was somewhere between 2 and 3 thousand by the sound) then the rpm and speedometer stopped working. My car has 319,000 miles on it. But about a week and a half ago I had my valve gasket replace because it was leaking at the same time the mechanic said my trannu relay switch was going bad so I told him to fix that too because I figured that was why sometimes my car was shifting early or late but fluid was good and the engine was in time. But on the way home my car right before it would shift it would go put put put and not shift and I'd have to let off the gas then press it back in to get it to shift almost like the clutch wasn't fully in gauged but my car is an automatic. Could it be my tcc solenoid going bad or what. I'm at a lost and if it's goin to cost me and arm and a leg to fix it I'll just patch it up until taxes
Check for stored codes. OBDII port on the 96/97 is behind the ashtray, to pull it out push down the metal flap to full release and remove it. Hook up a proper OBDII code reader and hopefully it will fart out a code.
Not sure what your mech meant by Tranyy relay. No such thing that I know of on these cars.

I think he was talking about a tranny sensor. But I'm calling the shop Monday to see what's up. Funny thing. It wouldn't start this morning. Got a ride to work from my roommate. Get home and jump start it and it started right up and the gages were working again. It was so weird.
There is a ground for the gauges, gear selector switch and shifter interlock. It's located under the radio in the metal housing of the console. If that is loose or corroded it can cause some funky electrical gremlins.
Also check Fuse #1 inside the passenger compartment, it powers the gauge cluster and the shift interlock. If it is acting up or faulty it can cause some strange issues, although I do not think it would cause a no start problem, just a no gauge issue.
