Default Short Shifter for 96 honda accord LX

I have a manual 96 accord LX. I have always heard of a short shifter, but never really knew what it was. Can someone please tell me what a short shifter is?

What are some good companys that make short shifters?

how much do they go for?

a short shifter is basically a shorter shifter, it decreases the distance between gears so that in theory you would shift faster, and forget pspec, go with http://www.forbiddenmotorsports.com, price is like $110 or something

kinda OT

id like to drive an accord w/a short shifter so i knew what it would feel like. the ads say 20-30% shorter (or more) but what the heck does that feel like?

i know when i put a short shifter in my mustang it went from about 5" to about 3"..and felt so much better, but thats a completely diff setup than from a honda...

sooooo, pples w/short shifters..in your opinion,is it worth the $$?

I just installed a fidanza short shifter on my car yesterday and works great. I do believe that it will reduce the shift throw by about 30%. Theres definatly a noticeable difference in shifting. Very easy to install too. Took about 20 mins. I bought it on ebay for $30. Worth the money and this one is only an adapter, not thw whole kit. Now all I need now is a nice heavy ****......

As you said, dont expect to put a short shifter in your Accord and have it feel like your Mustang. Huge difference with the Mustangs shifter going right into the tranny versus the cable linkage on the Accord and Prelude.

Reduction will depend on what short shifter you chose. My short shifter, in an Accord, to be on the conservative side I would say reduces the shift by about 15-35%, maybe more since the height difference is quite a bit. I'm pretty sure plenty of people in here use my short shifter so I'm sure they could chime in.

ive got a pspec, and i love it....ive heard nothing but great things about the forbidden as well....

its really up to you....pspec is a bit more expensive, but comes with a new, thick black leather boot, and a new black s2k style ****.....however forbidden is adjustable (or at least it used to be) and costs less....its up to you, but those are your only options...they just both happen to be very good

my 4bidden shifts 1st to 2nd takes 3 inches...not sure what it is stock...you're not gonna get less than 3 inches unless you start cutting stuff (either the shifter shaft or console) because the cable will rub against the console

however..let me point out (and i've been doing this for a little bit now) that no matter what short shifter or adapter you get, the only shifts that will be reduced would be vertical (1st to 2nd , 3rd to 4th) while diagnal movements (2nd to 3rd, 4th to 5th) will remain relatively the same (it will be reduce slightly with the shorter shaft)...reason is is that only one cable is being repositioned (the cable that controls vertical shifter movements) and the cable that is effected by side to side movements is in the same position...

there are several methods you can do to reposition the second cable...some being cheaper than others of course

the 4bidden shifter has a great semi-notchy feel (at least for a cable style shifter) that is nice and tight...well worth the $110...

Jarrett Here From Forbidden Diesel Performance. Since this comment was made, we have acquired this domain. It will re-direct you to Forbiddendiesel.com, where you will NOT find any short shifters.

I apologize for the confusion, but hey, if you need any parts for a Powerstroke, Duramax, or Cummins you know where to go!
