quick question
i am an integra guy so dont flame me, but a co-worker here at work needs a spare key for here 2001 accord ls, well she has been told that the key has a chip in it and that a spare won't start the car. now i know with my teg that is not the case, is this true with accords?????? as a matter of fact, i even have an aftermarket blue key for my car.
First of all, Accords dont come in LS trim so I assume you mean LX. I wasnt aware that Honda used this technology in their Honda cars, maybe Acura, but not Honda. So I doubt it.
Actually I do think the last generation Accords and Preludes have some kind of electronic key immobilizer, but I don't know if a spare will work and/or the proper way to obtain a working spare. She'll just have to ask a dealer how to obtain spares unless someone else in here knows.

yeah the newer gne accords and preludes have a chip in them...if you make a copy of it i think you can only use the key to open the doors...but i might be wrong tho....but i think to buy the original key its like $120 from honda..
yeah, the keys have a chip in it. The ignition won't start without it. The dealers charge sky high just to have new keys programmed. I remember reading the details about it, but that was long ago. I believe the ignition system sends some sort of signal that travels through the key and powers up the chip long enough to send the right code to the ignition...they key should work with the locks though.
If you don't want to deal with the chip, you can get an extra key and tie it to the ignition (which defeats its purpose). People usually do that so they can add remote start to their cars
