Default Question about error code p1486

Hi all, new user and owner of a venerable 2000 Honda Accord SE, 2.3L 4-cyl engine, auto trans, encroaching on 180k miles, this car is my baby. To quote a certain smuggler "it may not look like much but it's got it where it counts."

Anyway, I live in Wyoming and the outside temperature has just now started to rise to acceptable spring levels. Unfortunately its also around the time I've been starting to get p1486 CEL errors.

AFAIK the car is running fine, the coolant (measured via wireless OBDII dongle through Torque Pro) stays within the 150-170 range, no issues with overheating, fans are fine, etc. I understand that there is a TSB out there regarding issues with the thermostat, it recommends replacing the ECM, problem is my baby is WAAAAAAY out of warranty.

So my question to the forum is:

1) is it common for above-normal temperatures or seasonal changes to trigger a p1486 error? It's been pretty quiet all winter, I've been driving it around for work and such. It was throwing the code for a bit last summer and then stopped, now it's doing it again and more often.
2) What's the risk involved if I choose to ignore the code? I can monitor both engine temp and CEL codes in real-time with Torque, and it's the only code I've been getting so far. With no other indicators of an actual problem I have just been assuming that this has to do with the TSB regarding the thermostat. So I've just been wiping it from the system whenever it pops up.

Thank you!

Default Re: Question about error code p1486

I also have this code on my 2000 SE (In Los Angeles). I've been looking at the symptoms for about a month now
and occasionally disconnecting the battery to reset the code (is there a better way?)
On mine, I noticed that it takes longer for the coolant to warm up and this is reflected in the
needle being slow to move to the half way point. (Thermostat stuck open?)
I saw the recommendation re: the ECM, but I don't understand it, has it gone bad?
So far, it doesn't affect the running of the car, gas mileage the same as before

I'm going to have somebody look at mine soon, if I find out more, I'll update the thread
