Ok I own a 1990 Honda accord lx 5 spd the other day i let my friend drive it and he accidentally put into 1st while we were going like 35 instead of 3rd now my car keeps shutting off and it makes the horrible knocking sound under the car and will hardly even drive it goes slow like its bogging down but doesnt sound boggy something is messed up and i was wondering if ne one has ne ideas what it might be

 

punctuation, my friend. Sounds like he tore first gear a new one, probably need a new tranny.

 

How did it let you into 1st gear when you were going 35 mph? Mine only lets me into 1st when im going 5 mph or less. Did he completely let the clutch out or catch it when he realized the RPM was soaring? If so do you know what RPM he hit (was it bouncing off the rev-limiter)?

 

i duno how he got it into 1st we might opnly have been going like 25 but he got it in 1sdt and the roar of the engine was deafening i dont think i need a new tranny b/c we slowly but surely got it home all the gears still work it just goes really slow and makes a loud noise

 

no i dont know what rpm he was he didnt realize ne thing b/c i thought he knew what he was doing but obviously he didnt

i put it in first when i was going 40, scared the crap out of me, but everything was fine with my car. when you say knocking under the car, what kind of knock and from where exactly? give more info

 

What's your idle like now? steady or really rough? I'm just thinking it might be something internal like bent valves or a chipped piston. (just a thought)

 

that dont sound like that would be the cause of the problem......+ 1st gear @ 35mph is nothing dude.........

ive seen a 240sx popped into 2nd gear going 70 on a highway (missed downshift), revved it up to 11000rpm (apexi rev speed meter)

yea.....and he drifts teh car like madd y00...poor thing takes a beating, but it runs like a champ (those truck engines can take ANYTHING)....but hes also japanese, and grew up over there, and was "JDM" before anyone else......i guess the 5th -&gt;2nd gear downshift is just the JDM way to be
