Default Over cooling and cruise control ?

Hello guys,

I have a couple of niggling little problems with my 97 Accord vetc 2.2.

Firstly it sounds like a common problem judging by other threads on here, but I have an overcooling issue.

The temp will rise normally when idle and also when driving flat or uphill, but foe some strange reason as soon as i head down hill the temp drops quite rapidly sometimes below the white line.

This is then causing the car to think its cold and it starts using the cold start or choke.

any ideas?

Also, I cannot seem to get the cruise control to work. the switch on the dash panel is working as the light comes on. I then get to the desired speed lets say 50mph for instance. Pressing the set button on the steering wheel the green cruise light comes on dash next to fuel light.

As soon as i release the accelerator pedal the car starts to slow. there is no response from the + - on the wheel.

I have checked the brake and clutch dedal sensors and they are attached properly and adjusted ok.

any ideas on this one guys ?

thanks

Jim

well generally speaking when the temp is lower than it should be it is an issue with the t-stat. my car used to only heat up when i was idling and then it would drop below the white line when i was moving. the problem with mine turned out to be the t-stat being stuck open. now that i have a new t-stat it is all working correctly. so that would be my first guess. my second would be the temp sensor.

as for the cruise control have you checked out the cruise control cable? on my accord (a 94) it comes from the passenger side, its fairly large black cylinder that has a cable coming off of it (the cable i am talking about) that runs along the back side of the head to the drivers side then back to the throttle body and attaches to a pully there. there should be 2 pullies on the throttle body. if you pull the cable on the one thats for the accelerator it will only move that pully. if you pull the other cable it will move both of the pullies. this cable is the cruise control cable. (i'm pretty sure thats how it works. it may be the other way around) check to see if this cable is bent or bound up anywhere. otherwise maybe it is the black cylinder (not sure what the technical term for this is or how it actually works but maybe someone else has some insite into that)
