Hi guys my name's Ethan I'm new to the forum. I drive a 96 Accord coupe f22b2

I have been having a problem with my idle speeds... When I start the car it warms up and the idle goes down when its warm. Not a problem with that.

When I'm in park, if it is idling at the normal 650, when I gently press the gas and bring it up to 2500 rpm and then let it go, the idle will "stick" at about 1200-1300. Then I can put my foot under the gas pedal and pull upwards and the idle will drop back down to anywhere from about 350 to 600 or so. Same thing happens when I'm in gear and pull up to a stoplight it will be idling at about 1200 and I'll pull the gas pedal up and it will drop.

When I'm under the hood, I can find the thing the throttle cables are connected to, the spring loaded thing that rotates. I'll put my hands on that and bring the rpm up a little and it will still stick. Then I can rotate the thing back the other way and it will drop back down.

I cleaned my throttle body and my IAC valve today. I didn't take the throttle body apart I just cleaned and wiped everything out from the intake side of the plate, then I pushed the plate open with my finger and sprayed some throttle body cleaner in to the other side. The TB was pretty dirty but the IAC valve was filthy. I cleaned the valve real well.

Everything seems a bit more responsive, and it idles smoother now, but the same problem is still there. I'm not sure what to do at this point. I'm off work tomorrow so that will give me all day to work on my car. I love it when I can say that haha.

But does anybody have any ideas here? It's not a giant problem like my car isn't going to fall apart or anything, but it's really bothering me...a lot.

Thanks guys!

Re: Idle problem
well pressure wash the out side of the tb where the spring is and then spray some wd40 on it. if that does not work then loosen the small bolt on the side of the butterfly to make the spring stop, back that off ot see if that helps

Re: Idle problem
Mabee you need a new throtle cable... It could be binding. You can have someone step on the gas with the car off, and you look under the hood and see if it returns all the way..

I dunno the throttle cable seems like it's in good condition from what I'm seeing...Maybe it needs some kind of adjustment. Could these problems be a sign that it's too tight or too loose?

Re: Idle problem
I had the same issues with my car and did the whole clean. It was pristine and I was proud. I put it all back together......throttle stuck at about 2200 rpm. My problem was a binding throttle cable. Disconnect the line to the butterfly valve and pull it back and forth to see if you have a bind issue. Could've saved myself alot of time and effort....but the cleaning is nice to know it has been done. Cable is cheap and easy to replace.

Good luck!!
