Default help with speed sensor

my sport shift light is blinking on my 90 accord lx coupe. I did some research and it looks to be the speed sensor. I talked to a mechanic about it and he said that if i don't get it fixed soon it could put my tranny in fail safe mode which will keep it from shifting correctly. I would like to know if there is any truth to that, cause i have a friend that has a 91 or 92 ex and her speed sensor has been out for atleast 8 months and she hasn't had any problems.

for people that have speed sensors out here is a good link to a how to. http://www.cybertrails.com/~bestinth...tLocation.html

just check the trouble codes, it could also have something to do with your tranny computer, but chances are its one or the other. i have switched my speed sensor with jdm b16, usdm 94 civic and they work fine on my 91. also you could try to reset your computer- if you reset it and problem goes away but comes back its your tranny computer. if not just get a honda speed sensor. good luck

I just recently changed the speed sensor on my '90 Accord. Initially, I noticed the same problem with the sport shift light blinking. Then, as I was driving home, the check engine light came on and my speedometer only worked intermittently. My mechanic said that there should be nothing wrong with leaving the broken sensor in there. If you, indeed, have nothing wrong with your tranny, everything should still operate normally except for the speedometer and any indicator lights.

He mentioned that I could get by with just covering up the indicator lights with tape (ghetto). But I drive at night quite often and those blinking lights are difficult to ignore. Also, I like to know how fast I'm going and not just going with the flow of traffic. So, I got fixed. $160 for the OEM sensor.
