Default f23a4 engine mounts

00 Accord 2.3L VTEC ULEV w/ standard trans.

I have a clunk sound when shifting gears and I need new engine mounts.

How many engine+transmission mounts do I need.
Also what brand is recommended? BECK/ARNLEY, ANCHOR... or do people strongly recommend Honda OEM?

Thanks.

you tell us.. how many are broken? or do you want to just replace all of them? if that's the case, four.

i wouldn't expect a significant gap in quality between after market replacements and OE honda mounts. but, maybe someone who has tried one of those brands can shed some light..

f23a4 2.3L VTEC ULEV engine w/manuel transmission

rockauto carries ANCHOR brand for all 4 mounts, BECK/ARNLEY only has the front and rear.

I read on this forum about using inserts, but I cannot locate any for my car.

LIKELY... it's on the front or rear (or both) mount(s) that are broken. They are the ones that suspend the engine's torque movement.

If you want inserts, the 5th gen Accord's inserts will work...

If your mounts are busted though, I would advise you to replace the broken mounts and THEN install the inserts.

Replace all 4 due to the age of the car. I suggest you go with autozone ones with a lifetime warranty. If you break them again, just go to the store and get new ones.

I replaced my front and rear mounts, thinking that would solve my harsh clutch engagement problems. After also replacing the 2 side mounts (all 4 new), it was a night and day difference.

Front and Rear I replaced with OEM for $100 combined. Right and Left I replaced with aftermarket. If the side ones go bad quickly, I might get Honda OEM. But each side mount is over $100 OEM.

It is like night and day, but I still have clunk when going into 1st and sometimes when changing gears, but otherwise the shifting more smoother and much stiffer.

Sometimes when cruising in a parking lot in 2nd, At a certain point where the engine pushes the wheels, and then the wheels push the engine, I hear a clunk clunk clunk. What could that be if its not the mounts?

Do I need to change part #4 or was the mount (#3) enough? #4 just floats there on top of the mount, but does it contribute anything?
