F22 engine stutter issues
hey guys, this is probably going to sound like another one of those "I searched and couldn't find it" questions, but I really did and my problems are still here. First, let me give you guys the stats. I have a 96 accord ex F22B2 with a short ram, open test pipe exhaust, and it is an automatic. I have recently replaced the timing belt, valve cover gasket, ignition wires, plugs, drained the tranny, cleaned out the very clogged egr ports, new brakes front to back, and balanced the tires. I am about to start ovehauling the suspension and doing some performance modifications to give it a little more beef, but I before that I want to get her straight and true. I have been having some really rough idle problems and a very noisy engine to say the least lately... more like for a while actually. While doing some reasearch on here I really thought I had the problem pegged with the EGR ports being the culprit since it was throwin a code for insufficient flow. I took care of that one afternoon and my code has not come back since. Problem solved? no. My idle is still really rough and sometimes I think I am riding a Sybian at a stop light and not an accord. The other really weird thing I haven't seen mentioned on here is that even after the engine is warmed up if i am cruising right around 40mph I get a really bad stutter from the engine that doesn't kill/stall but just keeps shakin till i either give it more throttle or no throttle completely. I have been thinking everything from timing being off to motor mounts to new engine. I think some of these are ludacris and it is probably a lot simpler than that, but I want to get some help from HT and possibly see if anyone else has this same problem. Thanks in advance guys.
Here's a long shot.
Check the PCV valve and conecting hoses. I did a full tune up on my car only a couple months ago but I never replaced or inspected the PCV hoses, I only replaced the valve. The PCV hose in my Ford collapsed last weekend due to age and partially blocked the vacuum signal. It caused the engine to run really rough and it got worse the more gas I gave it. I don't know about 40mph cause I was driving in the city and I didn't wanna drive it that fast until I knew what the problem was. I put in a new section of hose and cleaned out the rest of the PCV hoses and it runs great now.

my 94 accord lx does thatsputterring thing you mentioned got me stumped, as the other guy mentioned about the pcv valve i did that a week a go didn't notice any changes. Sorry i'll take that back i did notice a change in my idle but for some reason after i isntalled my DC sports header last week my idle has been erratic it drops below spec like it's about to die. Anyway try changing your spark plugs your wires check your grounds umm, your fuel pressure regulator fuel injector resistor. i'm planning on doing that my self i'm pretty sure those parts i mentioned are cheap and inexpensive.

I will look into that, although mine does sound a little bit different in that my idle is high. I'm definitely not getting the estimated mpg i should be. Car normally runs solid when getting throttle but it's just when i'm stopped and when I am cruising at forty at about 15% throttle that i get the stutter which is a lot different than the vibration i get at a stop light

PCV valve is something i'm currently checking on. What is the best way to test this? Bump, for any other opinions. I know someone has had to have experienced this 40 mph thing.
Just check your PCV Valve, its on top of the valve cover and is the tube in the center. Just pull it out of the valve cover and inspect. If you're uncertain, buy a new one, they cost no more than 10$

Wasn't quite sure if it was bad or not, so i coughed up the 3.xx to get a new one. Homework calls so I dont really have to time to go out and see if I can get it stutter but I will update in the morning after my drive to work. I could blow through the old one so I'm thinking this might not be it.
ya know, i have never really done an exact test of that. I live in the city and usually nickle and dime the gas, buying 5 bucks here ten bucks there, every now and then fill it up but I never think to test it out. Mainly because I dont think our 5th gen fuel guages are too accurate. Seems a little off, and my low fuel light doesn't even come in before i'm out of gas.
my newly purchased car, 94 auto accord 160k, has the same issue on the passenger side wheel when im drivng at 40 mph and at like 55 or 60......kinda annoying but i just keep it either above or below those speeds till i figure it out. idk if this helps or not but when i turn my wheel to the right at low speeds, i hear a squeaking from the inside the wheel. a guy at work told me it was probaly a cv joint that had gone bad
i got my car back yesterday from the mechanic after my hc was way high and a catyltic, spark plug, and 02 sensor didnt fix it. he fixed my timing and told me that the reason my could would stutter is that 3 out of the 4 egr ports that lead to the fuel rail, were blocked by carbon. thats why my car was stuttering.....true as ****, i tested it today and no more shaking or jittering
heres a link i got to cleaning out the egr if u want to do it urself http://members.troublecodes.ne...R.htm

I don't know if this helps but I had a car do the same thing. It turned out to be the fuel pump going out the fuel presure reg. was adjusting it. When the reg. went out the car would not run at all had to get both.
I get the stutter at about 5-15% throttle too haven't changed the fuel pump or the fuel pressure regulator but going to do that next as I have done almost everything else aside from the timing.
