Default Engine Difference Question

Does anyone know the difference between engine numbers:
F23A, F23A1, F23A4, F23A5.
I have recently picked up a wrecked 1997/1998 Honda Accord LX with a 2.2 (2.3)?? engine. A sticker under the hood has the following numbers:
Engine Family - VHN2 2VJGKFK
VIN # 1HGCD5511VA800213 according to a serial number chart the engine is a 2.2 litre, yet the local Honda dealer tells me it is a 2.3 litre? The dealer also tells me it is an F23A engine. When I am looking to order engine parts online, there are the different engine codes of the 1, 4 or 5 number at the end of the engine number and it does matter for part numbers. I plan to build up this engine a bit for performance and put it in a different car. Also does anyone have an idea what the stock horsepower and torque is for the engine.

Thanks a lot......

well if its a 97, unless the engine has been swapped its a 2.2L f22, but if its 98-02 its a 2.3L f23a1/4/5. here is a breakdown of the f23s'

f23a1 - standard vtec motor, rated at 150hp and i think torque is also 150lbs.
f23a4 - ulev vtec motor, mainly found in california or other emission **** states. rated at about 148hp and i think again, 150lbs. tq.
f23a5 - nonvtec motor, came in DX trims. this thing has 135hp and ive seen 135 or 145lbs. torque.

i cant remember off the top of my head how much power an f22 has, but i think the one in the EX trim has 140hp?? something like that... hope that helps a bit.

Hey thanks a lot. I should have the engine out of the car this weekend and I will be able to get the actual numbers off of the engine.
Thanks for your input.

i hate how almost every list iv ever seen has the same mistake. The A6 came in the 91-93 SE AND 92-93 EX.

Also isn't the EX-R Canadian while the Accord Type R is JDM. Id think so sense i had one up until 4 days ago.

The type R is European (EDM) and was available in the UK and Canada. It sported an H22, not an F series as we're discussing here.

The F22a6 was available in:
1991 - 1993 Accord SE (USA)
1992 Accord EX-R (JDM)
1993 Accord EX (USA)

I'll make the notation and pass it along. What I'm up against is corroboration from but one web sourse, and different information from 20 others

hey guys new to the sight and hope you can assist me. i picked up a clean 91 accord se automatic car for cheap with a blown motor. and i have already a 1993 accord ex 5 speed car that had be hit in the side. so basically i want to make the 91 a 5 speed car. my question is about the engines. they have different exhaust and intake manifolds. which is no biggy to change. but will the 93 ex computer work for the 91 se when the wiring was a little different. if i have to i will go the distance of changing the wiring harness but i dont want to. any ideas?

I have this car: Exc VTEC ENG;; Qty n... 2001 Honda Accord EX Sedan 4-Door 2.3L 2254CC l4 GAS SOHC Naturally Aspirated. But my car is UK manufactured and the engine designation is F23Z instead of the F23A engine on the American Accord. I have seen many parts on ebay that show they fit both the F23A and F23Z engines. Are the engines the same for ordering parts?

I'm just curious as to how you came about posting an answer to an 11 year old question? One that was also answered 11 years ago...... just saying!
