Default engine cuts off at high rpm..

just had a question for you guys to see if anyone has experienced this before. whenever i'm driving around in a certain gear and hit about 7k (h22), the tach starts getting a BIT jumpy and then all of a sudden it feels like i hit a speed governor or something... the power just shuts off abruptly for a second and the revs drop. there's a loud noise and vibration that i can feel when this happens. so far, its happened in both 3rd and 4th gear. anyone know what the problem might be?

Some of the guys that massage ECM's will be more versed than I in this, but I believe You're running up against a programed rev limiter. It's most likely programmed per application (vehicle/engine) specific, so I'd suggest waiting for furthur replies

yeah, but i'm running a chipped ECU which has an 7,800 rpm rev limiter... and also this problem doesn't occur in 1st gear or if i'm in neutral revving... so it can't be a rev limiter.
