Default Engine Check Light on Initial Ignition (Issue Resolved)

About two weeks ago, the engine check light on my Honda (91 Accord) starting turning on when I started the car. It wouldn't happen everyday. If I turn off the car after initial ignition and restart, the light does not come on again. Only once in the last two weeks has the light come on again in the same day. This happens maybe 4-5 times a week. I haven't noticed any strange sounds or driving problems. The only thing different is that about three weeks ago, my horn started to sound different, like it was lower and slower.

The light mostly comes on in the morning, although there have been two times it came on in the afternoon.

Any ideas?

Sure this is not the bulb check cycle at the start-up of the car.

If you simply want to get the light to turn off without fixing anything open up your fuse box under the hood and pull out the 7.5 (amp?) that is shown on the chart as "radio backup" fuse for 10 seconds and then put it back in. The light should stop coming on for at least a while, unless you have something really wrong with your car.

shortlid - The light stays on until I turn off the car again. (I've driven over an hour with it on.) All of the other lights that turn on during the bulb check cycle turn off after less than a minute. So, yes, I'd say that I'm 99% sure that's not what this is. But thank you for taking the time to respond. I appreciate it.

noobking - Thank you for the tip. As I said above, I really appreciate people taking the time to respond. I'm wary of ignoring the light, though, since the last time I ignored a warning light (different light and circumstances) I ended up stranded in Bakersfield for a day and a half.

Went to the mechanic and it was a problem with the crank sensor in my distributor.
