Does my car need a tune-up?
i bought my 96 accord ex 5spd on feb and i've put more than 10k miles on it. i didnt do any maintance else beside oil change. is there anything i need to maintain, such as transmission fluid, spark plug, etc?
but i do not know how often the previous owner maintained the car. is there anything that i should change in case of the car breaking down on me
unless he dumped some other kind of fluid into one of them, and the occasional out of windsheild wiper fluid, you shouldnt have to replace any of those fluids because its obvious if the car has been running for 10k miles and your not on here asking us how to fix something, your fluids are fine, change your oil right, youll be fine, unless your just so worried you want to, then you can just drain them and put new brake, tranny fluid in, but i dont think its necessary.
well, are you aware of any leaks, if there are none, then it would be a long while from now, seeing as youd probably only run across problems with your tranny fluid if a. some other fluid got in there or b. running low and you will be able to notice if one of those 2 things are happening, but never wait for a problem to surface like i do, im an idiot, so if you want to be careful, check your tranny fluid every 10k miles

if you have no previous records YES definately, replace tranny fluid ,,fuel filter, adjust valves, chk air filter, plugs, replace as needed ,,,
change the oil and filter every 3 to 3.5k miles, tranny fluid 5 sp every 30k , also chk the timing belt

yo amigo you should rotate the tires between 7.5 and 10k ,, 30k is way too long a time

30k miles per tire rotation, you might as well not even bother since that's half the life of the tire! That means you can only rotate them twice and can't even cross them over to offset any alighnment issues. Stick with every 5-7500 miles.
Well how many miles are on this car to begin with? I've seen a lot of post but no real answers yet. Anything over 80k and I'd say:
-timing/balance shaft/surpentine/power steering belts
-water pump
-possibly seals (check for balance seal retainer recal)
-distributor cap/rotor as well as spark plugs/wires
-probably time for a new valve cover gasket set if its leaking
-new fuel/air filter/pcv valve
-probably a good idea to flush out and replace the coolant too (if you replace the water pump no reason to recycle it)
-upper and lower radiator hoses
-*not required but I'd flush out the brake fluid too
-check brakes/axles (and boots)/suspension
-oil/filter running a high mileage synthetic like Castrol Synthetic High Mileage 5w-30 and a Wix or K&N filter (never use Fram!!!)
This is on the aggressive side but that's what I'd do if I wasn't sure of the previous maintenance. I think I read that its an automatic, unless the fluid is burnt DO NOT REPLACE IT or this could potentially cause the tranny to slip.

the car had a lil less than 109k when i first got it, and right now it has about 122k miles. so far i've changed the timing belt, water pump, clutch, and got an cai weeks after i got my car. i think my car needs an alignment, i have put 17in rims, + puttin aftermarket suspenion with 2 inch dropped, never had camber kit nor alignment, suggestions?
putting an aftermarket suspension on your car without a camber kit definitly calls for a check of your alignment, theres a chance it didnt mess it up, but chances are its probably off after the suspension job, get it aligned again, even if its only off a little, cause you dont want to be paying for new tires in the end
yeah man check that alighnment for sure, there's nothing worse on tires than crazy aggressive camber (another good reason to rotate them too!)
Also check to see if brake fluid looks dirty. If it is change it. Most people don't even think about that until the master cylinder gives out. Might want to check pads and shoes too.
yea my yokahoma tires r fucked up already, so im plannin to put back the stock rims . should i do it before or after i put the stock ones back.?

hmm, lets see, my tires have a 100k mile warranty, meaning i can rotate them 3 times at the least, ive put 30k on it atleast and the tires are still like new, ill stick with what im doing

ever since i was a wee lad, any car that my parents have ever bought, everything was changed when we got it home.. fluids, oil, spark plugs and wires, dist cap.. ect ect. you never know how well the car was maintained by the previous owner.

argue all you want...i doubt you've installed tires for a living
In addition every place I've ever seen requires you to rotate every 5-7500 miles. That means if a tire blows out you have no warranty, this applies to mileage warrany too. Just because it may not show tread wear doesn't mean that the belts and sidewalls aren't stretching etc. Rotating also fixes alighnment, camber, and bad suspension. In addition why wouldn't you want to get your tires rebalanced so it drives better? Your call...

When you buy tires at Goodyear they give you free tire rotation every 6,000 miles. That is the normal mileage interval. By the way what kind of tires do you have Hondamike? I've never heard of a 100,000 mile warranty. I change my oil every 3,000 miles, and rotate tires every other time. Then I can clean the brake dust off the back side of the wheels and the brake calipers. Better to do it more than needed than less I always say.
4 Hankook H707 Milage Plus GT tires, your right, better to do it more than needed but its done me good, thats all im saying, i didnt disagree when you told the guy not to do what i do, but if its working out for me, then why shouldnt i do it? im not trying to start an argument, so you can stop
I'm off the power trip now lol (sorry)...But seriously the longest mileage warrany i've ever seen is 85k on the Michelin Hydroedge (a badass tire, unfortunately no H speed rating!). You got me curious now, what do you have that promises 100k miles? Far as I knew Michelin was the champ of the mileage race.
while we've hijacked the thread and on the issue of tires:
Have any of you noticed any real difference between H vs. S or T rated tires on your accords? I just put a new set of 195/60/15 BFGoodrich Traction TA H-rated (hella cheap at Sam's Club!) to replace my old mismatched, split belt, directional going the wrong way tires (previous owner abused the hell out of the tires). I have seen a difference in handling but I can't really tell how much of it is the extra tread and round tires vs. the misaligned, misbalanced, split belts tires they replaced. Feel free to voice your opinions.

ordered them through my local sears, even though i didnt keep the rotation thing for sears but i do those myself anyways.
believe it or not i actually found out about them through a popup, went to the website and i was in love
