Default CODE P730

hey guys i have a 1998 honda accord 4cyl 4DR and i did an engine wash but i didn't use any water on it i just used the engine degreaser i had but from autozone now when i took the car out i drove it for 10 minutes and after i head out of the store to come back home my tranny started to jerk and missshift it keeps down shifting and shifting into incorrect greas i even got the engine check light on i took it to the shop and they checked the code it was "incorrect gear ratio" they cleaned all the terminals for any contamination do you guys have any idea if it could be the soleniods that have gone bad due to the wash or is my tranny dead? cuz i only have 50K on this car and i never had this problem before it all happend after the wash.

Can you elaborate on what terminals were cleaned and how......Maybe something came loose

Also, is that the only code you are getting. IS your D4 flashing

i never had problems with my tranny before and i alwasy changed the fluid on time the teminals that i cleaned was after i had washed the engine cuz the mechanic told me there might be some contaminations left in them. you know all the plugs that go to the solenoids and almost all the wire connections that go to the sensors oh just to let you know i didn't clean them my self i took the car back to him and he used a spray with high pressure air and cleaned all of them and still made no difference pluse my reverse gear is working. I'm assuming that the computer could be messed up because it commands the tranny to shift at wrong speeds but i again i'm not sure i am supose to take it back to the shop today to have them check it more. If not i will have to take it to a tranny shop. i will be very disapointed with honda if my tranny is dead because i alwasy thought honda was a strong good car oh well i will have more updated results later. by the way early in the morning when i turn the car on and drive. it shifts fin goin one cycle from1st to 4th after the first cycle it starts tripping again. pluse as you asked no i don't have D4 flashing but i remember when the shop hooked up the computer to read the check engine code the D4 was flashing otherwise it wasn't.

Please keep us informed on what the shop says could be wrong and if you take it to tranny shop, what does the tranny shop says is wrong and wht they say did to fix it.

You will be unraveling this mystry for a lot of 6gen accord owners on this matter.

I need to look further but that code menas either the internal hydrolic pump has failed and your tranny is bye-bye. OR the shift solenoid valve A and torque converter clutch solenoid are bad. There is basically no way for you to check to see withc one this is with out checking the cluthc pressures for the 1-2-3-4 clutch pressure switches witch takes a special tool.

Awesome. finally someone answers with explaination for the novice. I will wait until you (Turbowa) has had chane to readup on the material. I would like to know what special tool is required and how to check up on this.

Any idea if it is the hydollic pump, can the tranny be re-built.

Sorry guys I was wrong on that code. I was looking at code P0740 not P0730. Code P0730 is incorrect gear selection. One of 2 possibilities.

#1: Either all of the transmission solenoids are bad. I have personally never seen this happen.

#2: Transmission MUST be replaced.

This comes dirctly out of the service manual. If you would like I could try and scan it and post a link to clear this up. But THIS IS the correct diag for this code. I was wrong on my earlier post.

Tranny can be re-built but unless you plan on doing the work your self its cheaper to just replace it. I have re-built many of these trannys and they are very costly to re-build.

Thanks. A link or PM with the diagram would be awesome and appreciated.

I am not rebuilding the tranny. Replacement is the option. Any ideas or pointers would be appreciated on where to get repalcement tranny (dealer ship is very expensive)
