Check Engine Code 4, 9, 20
Hello,
I have a '92 Honda Accord EX-R 2.2L 5sp MT. She's just over 195K miles (306k km). I've been giving her regular oil changes about every 3K miles (5k km).
I've been doing some research, and found out from here and other places, that I can fix the check engine light codes 4 & 9 by replacing the distributor. I've been experiencing similar issues as those described in people who have fixed their issues by replacing the distributor. Engine stops, has trouble starting, works fine for a while then acts up again, temporary drops in RPM while idling/driving, etc...
I can't really find much on code 20 (Electric load detector) though... Any tips on what to start with for getting this one resolved? Also, could it be that it is the cause for codes 4 & 9 in the first place?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Marc

I had the same problem with my 4th gen, if i remember codes 4 and 9 have to do with crank position right? i replaced the distributor twice and it seemed like it worked for a few days than same problem after some research it turns out they have a problem with the soldier points in the main relay which is about a $70 part from honda but here is a DIY on how to fix it http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/sh...relay
that is awesome! thank you very much! Once i'm done changing the distributor (had to go get more parts today for a new cap & rotor) i'm going straight to looking into the main relay as that link is showing. Soon she'll be ready to go for another 300k km!
Update: Okay! Well, changing the distributor definitly seems to have fixed my major issues! I looked at the main relay as well, and it mostly seems ok, though once I can grab a soldering on special, I'll reopen it up and solder the connections for good measure.
I now have a bit of a different issue though. When I bridge the tester port, instead of my engine light flashing, I now have my ABS light flashing, 4 short flashes, pause, 4 more shorts, and stop - its also on all the time when driving, has been for a while, and started being always on before the engine light did. I checked all my fuses and they all checked out alright. Any ideas?
Thanks again,
Marc
