Default A/C problems

96 Accord EX

well all my refridgerant leaked out over the winter and i had it recharged today. everything was going fine until the second bottle went in and the pump/compressor started to kick off.

I do know that it has the proper amout of R134 or so the guage says but can not figure out why the compressor will stay on. sometimes it will kick on for a minute and then kick off and it keeps trying to kick on but just wont.

i have heard of a thing called a cycle switch but can not find it or even know what to look for...

someone help cause its friggen hot out!!!!

<- Confused

Did you use the AutoZone type refills? If I recall those require you have the AC on full blast the whole time you're filling it so the compressor should be on.

Or are you saying it goes on / off / on / off. You may have overfilled it if that's the case.

yea it was just the auto zone 12 oz. bottles and the guy who filled it had it on a guage and said it was filled up and not over charged (i was watching and it never got in the red area).

I had the A/C on full blast with all the windows down to keep the compressor on but after the second bottle it started to turn on and off like you described. he thought there might have been an air bubble or something and released some of it after but it still wont work.

i just tried it again and it is like it wants to kick on but it can't???

and when it does it is only for like 30 seconds to a minute that it stays on???

If it's going on / off and repeating most likely it's overcharged. I recently had to recharge mine and those guages on the refill kits are incredibly lame and inaccurate. I'd bleed a little bit out and see if it helps the situation.

My car does that as well I think. I notice that it gets colder and then not so cold When I'm sitting still at a stop light or in a drive-thru it will turn on and kind of shutter. My car has always done this, though. Maybe that's why my AC isn't that cold? Especially since I just put a new compressor on it.

you should try hooking it up to an a/c machine, vacuuming the system down, then recharge it w/ the correct amt. see if that helps any. if not, i'd say it's ur clutch cycling switch. not sure where the location of that is tho.
