Default A/C problem

Ok here it is my ac wasnt working at all the compressor wouldn't cut on. It was low on refrigerant . So I added a can. The compressor started cycling. So I continued adding the two other can I had. I had the ac on max while I was adding but the psi would not go up, I shut the system off and added and the psi went up. As soon as I turned the system on the psi dropped on the low side to 10, when the compressor was cyclying it was between 10 and 15 on the low side. I touched the lines and they were warm also no bubbles in the sight glass. Fans come on just fine , can someone help me as to what I should check??

You can't just add refrigerant like gas in the fuel tank. The system requires a specific amount of refrigerant to function properly.

No I wasn't just adding I made sure it was empty before I started adding refrigerant

Ok. Did you start filling after evacuating the system? How much refrigerant in weight did you add total?

Yea I filled after evacuating I used 3 12 oz cans of the ez chill which they say contain the oil and a leak detector. When the car is off the psi is at the ambient temp when I turn it on it drops to 15 psi do u think it just needs a lil more refrigerant?

I want to know exactly what the pressures are with the system on. The pressures will increase/decrease as the system cycles. I want that information. Also, what is the ambient temperature and humidity?

It's 75 degrees outsides the humidity have to get back to u on that I'm in Houston the low side while the car was off was at about 40 psi soon as I hit the ac on it dropped to 5 psi then while it cycled it was between 5 and 10 psi

Pressures within a system that is NOT running should be pretty close to the ambient temperature around the vehicle. Meaning, at 75 degrees the pressures on the high and low side should be somewhere around 75 psi. System charge is critical for proper operation. The system requires a delecate balance. It is critical to accurately weigh the refrigerant when charging the system.

If you know the environmental conditions and have a refrigerant guide to refer to you can charge a system by watching pressures with a set of manifold gauges.
