Hey there today my timing belt broke WHILE i was IDLE at a stop light. Car just stopped and lights came on, NO NOISE no smoke.

Is it possible a valve could have been broken, or engine damage becuase the car was just idling at the intersection wiating for the green light.

Did you do the work yourself? If not, it sounds like your mechanic wrecked the engine...

Whoa whoa whoa, I agree.

If a mechanic shop did your timing belt I'd say they are 100% at fault here.

The first mechanic should atleast give you your money back when you show him the bill from the other guy...if he doesn't you should be able to win a lawsuit against him in court.

You should file a complaint with your states bureau of automotive repair. They are normally able to put enough pressure on the mechanic to address the issue.

well he is a mechanic that i'd go to alot in the past so i dont have a receipt or proof of his labour

Basically what happened was he did the timing /water pump/tensioners/seals etc and then when i got it back his stupid mechanic broke the bolt in the valve cover and JUST left the cap on top, loose. I found out when i got home and seen that the bolt was looose and oil was jumping out the top cover through the hole. I go back to complain he didnt take any responsibility for it and was quiet and an argument occurred and said i'm just going to give it to someone else to fix and he says go do that. P.S there was a squeeeling noise after the job he did that was occuring and he says that it will go away with time..

SO i get the other mechanic shop to fix the bolt under the valve cover and thats all good now, but then about a week or so after the timing belt job the timing belt breaks and now my car is with another mechanic getting 2 ****** valves fixed and the cam wheel.

Will a belt rip if run too tight? I'd think it's more likely that you'd kill a tensioner or water pump prematurely, maybe even seize it (destroying the belt).

Ripped belt sounds to me like a belt that wasn't riding on the pulleys correctly or that was rubbing against something (might make a whine sound?).

Just my guess, but those belts seems pretty beefy to just rip from too much tension.

yes a whining sound was happening but would tend to go away and come back.

Here is a detailed video with step-by-step instruction on the replacement of the timing belt on the Honda Acura V6 J Series engine, including the replacement of the pulleys, tensioner, as well as the water pump and special tools needed to complete the job.

I have a 96 Honda Accord LX that my sister gave me when she bought her new one. It has over 300,000 miles on it. It died on me last night on the way home from church. I let it coast into a parking lot and left it there. I called a mechanic friend of mine and he said he thought that I might have some damage to the engine. But I talked to a local mechanic that specializes in imports and he said he thought that it would be ok. I dont know what to do. I found an engine for $300.00 with only 120,000 miles on it. The car before it died was running good and the interior is in really good shape. I need some imput.
