Accord Engine Problems
I have a 2000 Honda Accord EX coupe with 100120 miles.
800 Miles ago I had my clutch replaced and a valve cover gasket because of a minor oil leak.
About 400 miles after getting my car back I noticed a disturbing noise coming from the location of the transmiton. I returned my honda to the shop for diagnosis. It ended up being a loose peice of metal in the catylitic converter. At this time I had that replaced as well as having the shop perform valve adjustments.
As of yesterday I started to get a blinking check engine light and disturbing vibrations from the engine. I checked my oil level and found that the dipstick did not register any oil. I know the oil was topped off after the valve cover gasket was replaced 800 miles ago.
I am taking my car to the shop today to have them diagnose the problem. Due to the close proximity of my current problems to recent repair work I am under the impression that the shop may have caused this current problem.
Anyone have any ideas?
Until the check engine light started blinking I didn't have any indications anything was wrong. Enging temp and oil pressure were normal. No discolored exhaust nor smell of burning oil.

take it back and tell them if the can plug in the scantoll 4 obd2 and let us know what codes u have that will tell a lot of the engine is trying to say. or if any 1 can do that 4 u and post the codes.
Sorry, in my haste to get to work I forgot to ask what the computer scans were.
This is what I do know. Cylinder number 3 was getting a low compression. The mechanic then did a drawdown and found no seapage in the valves.
The spark plug for cylinder 3 was all gummed up and black, the others were all normal. The mechanic believes that the cylinder rings have carbon buildup and that is causing leakby hence the low compression. Why it took so long for it to be discovered I don't know.
He first wants to try to use a very low viscoscity oil to try to burn off the carbon. The engine will be reved up to around 1000 rpm and held there until the engine heats up and then allowed to cool. Then the process is repeated as many times as needed to clear out the carbon. He stated that by doing this the carbon would be burned up and released through the exhaust. He believes that there is a 70% chance of this fixing the problem.
If this dosen't work then the head will have to be pulled and the rings replaced.
Any suggestions?

The rings are not the cause of low compression on one cylinder, I agree that an overly tight valve lash could be the culprit. When was the PCV valve checked or replaced?
another poss the valve cover was replaced.......so oil could gotten in cyl#3 by the gromet around the spark plug {xplains where oil went or was going} making the wire for the spark plug not deliver voltage {thats why motor shakes} ...obd2 r real sensetive and sets off codes ,......missfiring......... when they pulled out plugs they got wet with oil that had settled there. so that shop is real smart of covering their mistake or they intend to blame it on carbon.. because all motors have some carbon there . There trying to brush of thier mistake. GOOD POSSOBBILITE?
