Awesome man! I bought my teal 95 w/238k on the clock. Thing ran perfect but the little clouds of smoke behind it got annoying, so I swapped it out with a lower mile longblock.

i see your point, especially being that hondas are "economy cars"...i plan to rock an older EE/EF style car with some variation of SOHC to get me to my MPG goal, get'n VERY excited to see how i can do, if all goes well i'll try to keep it as long as possible and roll the munchkins to school in it, LOL!! Screw a 5th gen Civic with a Z1. How about an EJ2 w/ and D15B6 (CRX HF motor)?

The motor was just temporary until I found my Y8. The gas mileage was awesome, about 42mpg. It wasn't to bad as far as power, it drove like a normal four cylinder car. And this is a DX model (Power nothing besides the optional PS), so its not too heavy.

no name CAI
15x6.5 slipstreams

last time i filled up i got 39.8mpg. i normally average 42-44 but it's in dire need of an oil change.

it's my daily and i got tired of it looking like crap compared to my weekend honda so i decided to make it look a little bit better. i really like how everything turned out. going for a last shoot of the year in a couple hours so i'll have better pics soon

Sounds great man! Good mpg too. For a little better mileage you should convert the intake so it only sucks up warm air (by taking off the lower portion of the intake). The VX from the factory only sucked warm-air, and that also gave it a little better mileage compared to sucking it cold.

That's good. You must have found an HF motor with a lot of power still left in it! I know one guy I talked to once said his was terrible even in his HF crx. He told me of never being able to shift into 5th on the highway to keep up with traffic. But then again he was in a band and had the car stuffed full of speakers and equiptment all the time.

Search supermid or scan gauge on google and you'll find some good ones. Or go on Gassavers.org and you'll find a few being advertised.

Wow, that is my dream haha. That's like half the revs of my car. I never understood the point of a short top gear...I'm just cruising in it, and I'll downshift to accelerate anyway. I want a damn VX 5th gear haha.

I remember when I had my LS Integra it would hum along at about 3500 RPM on the highway....that sucked.

Your prob not calculating it right..

My hatch usually got around low 30's..but I always beat the **** outta it haha and it also had a cam and was untuned.. I think my highest average on a tank was like 36 haha</TD></TR></TABLE>

im not sure what you would call calculating correctly, but this is what i did: fill up 5.5 gals, drive till light turns on, fill up 5.5 gals, drive till light turns on, did it 4 times then got an avg. then did it another 4 times and it was about the same. then i started filling up full tank cause i got lazy, and the mpg turned out to be a little less. maybe because of the extra weight of fuel?

this was on a stock jdm h22a with, bigger tb, portmatch im, rmf header, 2.5in exhaust, and tuned. car use to get ~30 before everything just listed.

I think someone forgot to read about how the vx came with the grill block from the FACTORY.

(Refer to the picture of the Honda installed grill block that people "love to hate" a few posts above. If the rad gets enough airflow to not make the temp gauge go up or even the fans to start, how is it a bad thing? Look at the insight and other Honda hybrids. They always have a different grill to block more air from going into the engine bay. This isn't just to look cool (like cutting out a grill would be for some people) but actually does have a purpose: better aero on the front of the car, and to allow the engine to heat up quicker since a warmed up motor is better for wear on it, and better for MPG.)

So how is blocking off airflow bad on this Honda-engineered MPG saving car?

Calculating MPG with that method out be a bit off on the high MPG side. When the light comes on in most Hondas, you still have about a gallon or two left so that you don't suck up all the dirt in your tank.

If you want to get an accurate MPG on your car do this:
Fill up till the pump shuts off, don't overfill. Reset your trip odometer.
Use up most of the tank, you don't have to wait till the light goes off to fill up next time (but the more gallons per fillup you use, the more accurate it will be).
When you fill-up write down the # of gallons it used, and the miles on the trip odometer.
Divide the miles driven on that tank of gas divided by the # of gallons driven on the tank.
That will give you a much more accurate MPG for the car.
For an ever more accurate reading, do this for a few tanks of gas, and take the average of the MPG you get.
Also go to the same gas station to fill up each time, and even try to use the same pump, since each pump stops at a slightly different time.

Do those things and then you'll have your fairly accurate MPG without having to account for the fuel left in the tank.

Something right! Car is getting just about 50 MPG right now.

Reading owns you.

I think this was explained about 3 times in this thread already?

This thread is just flat out sick! I just picked up a crx HF and was going to use it for a daily, but when I drove it home, I realized that you got to keep it in 3rd gear around here (country roads) to even be able to pick up speed. It was definatly different lol.

On the other hand, I really need to find a new daily. I just swapped in a b16 trans with the new motor in my DA, and driving on the highway blows!! I just got back from camping up in PA, and driving on the Penna Turnpike at 80 mph sucks. The motor is screaming at 4300 rpm. I can't stand driving it anymore
