Something wrong with the coolant system...there is a leak somewhere, but I cant find it for the life of me!!! Thought it was the lower radiator hose, so i changed it. Ditto to upper. It only leaks when running, and even then, the engine doesnt get hot for about 40mins to an hour, then it spikes all of a sudden and you gotta turn off and let it cool...any one have any ideas???

...and dont say head gasket, please...

Jake there are lots of threads in the EG/del Sol section of H-T... search the archived threads, there is one in particular that had a checklist IF I remember correctly.

Here's what I would do if I were you since I've got a toasted gasket.

Fill up your radiator before starting up your car. Start up the car and check for any leaks - make sure you didn't spill coolant when topping off. You might want to remove the bumper to see if there any holes on the radiator (i.e better visual of the front part). Let the engine run while parked and after 20 minutes or so the fan should start. If it doesn't, rev the engine a few times to get it hot.

If you got no leaks AND the fan is working, thats the beginning of bad news to come.

If there are no leaks have the thermostat replaced and check to see if all the relays are well connected. If the problem continues my best guess is gasket.

A simple way to check is take off your oil cap. If you see a white gel stuck at the top, thats coolant and oil mixed... hence gasket.

Another way to check gasket problems is check your radiator for similar gunk when you take off the rad cap. There could also be gunk in the aux. water tank or whatever that thing is called.

If you've had persistant heating problems (i.e. your sister not knowing better) you might have bad compression. An easy way to check if all your pistons are ok is simple. Pop the hood while the engine is idle and not warming up. Begin by pulling the spark plug wires one at a time. If when you pull out a wire the idle shake is the same, you've got a piston not working properly - which means piston rings.

I hope this helps - and GOOD LUCK

edited cause I noticed a grammatical error.

It's obviously Miko's fault. Theres no doubt about that. It's become a Law of Physics - it's as constant as the rotation of the earth or gravity.

Yup! Today I just moved in my cousins house while he's away for his honeymoon. I got the appartment all to myself - and I'm allowed to smoke (Please don't start another convo about why smoking is bad).

All I have to do is feed the cat... which believe it or not is named MIKO!!!! I kid you not!

Heres a picture from my cousins wedding reception - the best man giving a speech.

Tell me about it! I freaked out, the cat is black with a single white streak over his left eye.

I wonder if that ***** of a mormon Jake read my advice. I hope he's not checking his radiator at this time of the night.

Well I'm off to try and get some sleep - it's 5:30am here.

jake, if it is a head gasket, no big deal, only takes about 3 hrs to change. you single cam guys have it easy, you don't have to pull the cams to get the head off
