For you guys that weld
i didnt know where to post this and i figured most of the people that weld make manifolds so they would be in the forced induction forum
i dont know how to weld. i just wanna learn. i dont need to make manifolds. i really just wanna make exhaust then eventually after i have learned maybe make a manifold or two. i just dont know which kind of welder i need to weld pipes. stainless and mild steel. is this welder alright for this kind of stuff? should i just get something cheaper? do i need a TIG welder? what kind of gases do i need? so my question is pretty much - what the hell do i need to weld stainless and mild pipes? if you wanna recommend any other welder thats fine also. recommend whatever you want cause i really dont know. i just wanna learn and teach myself

Re: For you guys that weld (98AccordEX)
I have a MIG. I'd really like a TIG but I don't have $1500 to drop on one right now. MIG works good, but not quite as pretty and depending on the one you buy typically won't work as well on thicker metals.
Look at Lincoln and Miller. Expect to spend about $400 or so for a decent one, plus about $100 for a small gas tank. For mild steel (and probably stainless) just ask them for the gas you need when you get the tank, they'll know (75/25 mix).

You might want to take a class in welding... you can learn a ton that way, and you can usually make whatever you want using the tools in class... class was $100 and I learned a ton.
