Re: ????wtf with the hood spacers??? (crvtkllr)
those "spacers" are called washers
and the reason people do it is to help vent out heat not because its cool or a fad...... but then again there are alot of people who do it because its a bandwagon

In for the quick, its so gay post!!!!!!!!
Now this thread will turn into 3 pages of arguing what they are and if they work or not.
Bottom line, they don't work well enough to make your car look that gay.
Like you got in to an accident and your shhit doesn't fit right.

I've done spacers on my car and I'm glad I did it. Even on 100 deg day my temps stay cool.

haha. who hasn't done that? i actually chipped off some paint closing my hood onto a wrench.
anyways, i'm thinking about doing this also. after a quick drive, my car gets pretty hood under the hood. and i barely ever hit boost so i dont know what the problem is. not over heating, and my oil temp is aount 81 degrees. is that normal?
i'll probably hit to home depot for some washers and maybe a longer 10mm bolt.
anyways, i think hood spacer would look much better then a carbon fiber dark vador vented style hood.

How does air vent from under the hood to the cowl area when it is a huge high pressure zone? I mean, normally you don't get flow from areas of low pressure to high pressure, usually the opposite happens. Ever wonder why the AC system gets air from that area and there is a rubber seal on the back edge of the hood?

it works but it's too ugly for me to do. I've always wondered if removing the weather stripping on the back would create enough of a gap to allow air to go through but never tried.

Re: Re: (RedEj8)
i'd imagine it helps the heat escape a little easier and it also helps hood clearance for those of us that actually have something under there.

actually air isn't going to go out throught there. its going to come in. which is why guys with itb's do it. it helps nothing with letting hot air out. maybe when its sitting still.

Re: (bigbadboy)
Regardless, it cools the engine bay. With a big fmic letting evel less air in through the front, it means even more air is pushed in than what itb guys see.
The fact is turbo cars have a lot more heat under the hood. Removing hot air sucks in cool air. Forcing in cool air removes hot air. Any exchange in is a benifit.
That said... I dislike the look too. All that's needed is to rip out the rubber molding all around the hood, front/back.

Air doesn't go "out" of there... You should really read on how cowl induction works. There is a reason why it is called cowl "induction"...
EDIT: What the heck, I'll tell you now... Air hits the windshield and it slows down. The difference in pressure (it takes more energy for the air to go over the windshield as opposed to doing a near 180deg turn and into the engine bay) actually forces air into the engine bay. There is a lot of resistance for air to go over the car just by the downforces and aero drag involved. By tilting the hood at an angle (or spaced out, whatever), it is to simulate a cowl induction hood and a noticeable amount of air will seep into the engine bay thus giving added airflow and cooling when the car is moving... It barely does anything when the car is sitting still, but if you are in stop and go traffic, constant air flowing into the engine as the car is moving between traffic lights keeps heatsoak to a minimum (reason why some folks are having success with it).
My own approach to this was remove the weatherstripping instead of "tilting the hood"/ This still gives a 1" gap between the back of the hood and firewall. I could never live with a spaced out hood...
