would this ish work together?
Aight y0, time for another thread. Ive come across an autometer egt gauge ultralite full sweep electric 0-1600 (part #4343), it has the wires necessary coming from the gauge, but does not have a probe. I really want to go with this gauge, cause im getting it for real cheap. So my question is... would a probe kit like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...wItem
work? or do I need the "autometer" probe kit? Cause ive heard that you might not get accurate readings without the probe kit specified for the gauge, but at the same time, on the autometer site it says compatible with k-series thermocoupler probes as does the ebay auction. Thanks for the input...

bump, i would like to know as well.
Oh and btw will you do me a favor. I bought a thermo from that guy and lost the compression fitting. I talked to him and ordered another one from him and he NEVER shipped it. Its been over 5 months. Can you ask him where the expletive my fitting is? He doesnt answer emails either.

Re: (sk8shorty012)
I buy thermocouple wire in bulk, make my own thermocouples, for pennies on the dollar.
Depending on what I need, I either buy duplex sheath for sub-400 deg F, or 304 braided for exhaust manifolds, and braze the junction together. Depending on the temperature/environment, I either seal the thermal junction with epoxy or crimp + seal a stainless bullet over it.
I'm using three of these loggers to record individual cylinder EGTs and various "hotspots" in the cooling jacket and head near-ish to combustion chambers and exhaust valves (which are the primary bearers of thermal load in the engine). I could not afford to do this with retail prices what they are, @ $25/probe, even with inexpensive simple dataloggers: http://www.dataq.com/194.htm.
For recording mundane temps such as charge temps before/after IC I use Dallas DS1820 I defrauded numerous free samples of. I was originally planning on using the DI-194RS for these, but http://electronickits.com/kit/...0.htm is so damn cheap.
Oops, there I go, off on a tangent again.
I dunno, how far do you trust a mentally unstable loon on whether or not K-type thermocouples are used in Autometer gauges? Ignore me when I tell you, for an encore, you'd be happier with a RWD vehicle of some displacement - I am completely deluded.

Re: (J. Davis)
BTW, I got bored waiting for your reply, my sweet sweet valentine, and clicked your eGay link. That's Inconel 600 braided K-type probe, $$ pimp **** at a $ price. You go.
Wheee, haven't been drunk in a while.
