Default will this damage an INLINE fuel pump??

i have an inline and a stock intank fuel pump running in my car. if i put a switch on my INLINE fuel pump so i could turn it off or on whenever i like it and just use the intank, will the inline fuel pump get damaged? someone told me that letting fuel flow through a fuel pump without the pump's motor running will damage the fuel pump. is that true?

the reason i want to power-off my inline fuel pump is for me to pass vehicle emissions test. unlike in the US or Canada, the emissions test here don't have a standard value to compare it too. each testing center have their own standard value and that sucks. so i was hoping to lean it out by switching the inline fuel pump off.

any help will be appreciated.

I know people who switch them off all the time. I don't see how it could damage it, maybe put a bit more strain on your intank, but it won't hurt the inline.

I've had mine hooked on a switch for the last 3 years. 2years with the turbo setup, 1 on my nitrous. No problems with either the inline or the intank, so far.
