Default Wideband O2

Just wondering how many of you guys are using one? I know how important it is to have a wideband o2 but is it still needed if you are running hondata? Sorry if this is a newb question. Can't you alter your fuel maps with hondata without needing a wideband?
Thanks,
Dan

the wideband tells you how rich/lean you are. Hondata (or another program like crome/neptune) then allows you to edit it.

a WB is necessary for accurate tuning, no question about it.

yup

even if your management system has a datalogger, its running on a 1v ( narrowband) spectrum. that basically means that the system shows -.5v lean/0v stoich/ .5 rich. on a wideband its a 5v spectrum. this makes for a much EASIER tune because theres way more specific data. this is especially important with standalone engine management systems. ( piggybacks are only modifying oem maf /afr signals , and make it quite a bit harder to really screw up a tune).

when you get your tuned by reputable tuner, he would use wideband to tune your car. most dynos will have wideband so its only needed for when your car is being tuned. you do not need wideband after its been tuned and chipped has been burned. but.. its very usefull to have.

...yes having a wideband after the car is tuned is not manditory by any means but it gives a huge piece of mind. its easy to justify the cost of the wideband as well: a new narrowband O2 sensor is abot $85 + a narrowband gauge is about $40 = $125. spend $300 and you can have a wideband, which will actually tell you something about fuel delivery.

i just picked up a used PLX M-300. Looking foward to getting it installed...

this is true. you are also burning up your hourly bill for wideband install everytime you have your car tuned. not to mention if you have an EMS , theres no chip burning. most good widebands ( i.e. aem uego) also have an analog output which will work with an external datalogger. ( excellent for the do it yourself-er)
