Default why cometic sucks. golden eagle FTW.

the last 2 years i have had problems blowing gaskets, all cometic. everytime they blew out in a different spot. tried everything to make in stop. over 2 years i blew 5 gaskets.

over the past weekend i installed a golden eagle gasket. my car runs 10 degrees cooler all the time and holds up to all the beating i put on it. i will never go with anything else.
thanks golden eagle.

So in a whole weekend of use you can tell the OEM gasket is better than 2 years use of a Cometic? If you have had 5 head gaskets blow in 2 years you have another issue, plenty of folks not having problems with cometic other than the price.

Chances are your head or block has the wrong machining finish to properly seal.

Is the piston size 85mm?

Yes because everytime I raced the car I knew it would blow and it did. The golden eagle handled more abuse than all of my cometics diD over the weekend. its a84mm.

Your Dart block is baised off a b20 deck, an oem Honda gasket would have worked perfectly fine in your application.

Still not a very informative post, it does nothing to tell anyone why Cometic is a poor choice.

I have had cometic on 2 cars personally and been around many friends with them and they have only been problems and headaches with cometic. I mean come on when feel pro will not have a single issue and cometic on the same motor will I think its clear they don't do so hot on hondas

I had nothing but problems with 2 cometic head gaskets in my boosted R and then I switched to a GE gasket and have never had another problem.

If you do extensive research on here, you will see about 30% of people/articles like Cometics and 70% hated it and had problems.

Cometic's been around a long time and are a good company, but they generally seem to work out better on V8's than Honda's. Who knows the specifics as to why.

It's all about the finishing of the block/head, not many shops take the extra time to achieve this

Well the reason I ask is I'm still in the buying stages building my first turbo car. I bought some 85mm CP's 9.0:1 and I'm getting the block sleeved. The company I got the pistons from gave me the Cometic gasket and after reading other threads where people have reported similar problems with leakage, I think I'm going to jump ship before I assemble mine. I'm having Darton sleeve it and both the block and head will be machined, but I don't want to take any chances.

I bought a Cometic gasket a long time ago but I won't be using it due to threads like these and word of mouth telling me to steer clear.

OEM GE bored 84mm, 505hp. zero problems with OEM but I needed a custom thickness to restore deck height.

Most always in the surface prep, but my GE sloppily bored out OEM 89mm was nowhere NEAR the quality nor aesthetically pleasing as my Cometic MLS/// Had issues from jump with it...

The fire rings were compromised from their sloppy *** bore job. It literally looked like the HG walked around while they bored it. I was not impressed, but ran it. It pushed coolant from the get.

Slapped a cometic stock height MLS in it (DRY, NO copper spray bullshit) with the equivalent of a 600 grit finish on the top of the sleeves..... and MONEY, NO issues beating the SHIIIIT out of the car at 750/575

I wouldnt touch one of their thicker gaskets, but the MLS work PERFECTLY fine if you do YOUR part and follow instructions. I was apprehensive about it from what I read until I got it in my hands.

I made 650 WHP on an OEM at 87.5mm for 3 years, if I wouldnt have gone bigger on the bore its what I would have used... (theyre good to 87.5)

Cometic 1 GE sloppy ho 0.

GE will get all of my sleeve business no matter what, but Their HGS Im less than impressed with from experience

You might not just throw **** together OP, but evidently you are doing SOMETHING wrong

we NEVER had problems with them up until about 2 years ago. it seemed there quality went down hill and customer service still had nothing to say. my engine builder makes 2000hp on v-8's with cometic all the time but i really dont think they have there honda game down.
