who runs with a welded diff?
I wouldn't really recommend it. It will put alot of stress on your axles and not to mention it's a bitch to steer. Seriously, I would recommend a Quaife.

i dont want to pay 700 for LSD, i only paid 500 for my car
i want some opinions from people that acutally run a welded diff, i talked to one guy he said its not bad at all, only on parallel parking is it a bitch

The turning is doable on street tires, it's the extra stress it puts on the axles that's the main problem. You'll probably break alot of them...

I have had a welded diff and its not too bad except if you dont haver power steering at low speed or a stop. Also, if it breaks you will hit the wall at the track most likely. I have seen it happen before. still its the best bang for the buck. the quaife still breaks, lsd is still a peg leg, and spool is 600.00. go for it!!!
Yep, any time you turn one wheel is going to be turning slower and barking like crazy, and sooner or later it will bite the asphalt and snap your axle. But hey, I'm sure the guy that already told you to do it knows what he's talking about so don't listen to us

I know there is no way you guys run a quaife in your car. I have seen an ITR w/ 480 whp break one and send it thru the case. Might not happen often but its not as reliable as a spool or welded diff.

You've seen a quaife break? What conditions was this in? We've never broken one, ever...

Look bro, don't tell me what we run. I guarantee you we run a quaife. Two years on 28" slicks and never broken one. I have seen numerous spools break though. Maybe that guy got a bad one or something? The quaife is the most reliable thing out there from what i've seen.
Jojo did break one last year. But like you said, that was after two years of abuse. Eventually anythings gonna break. I haven't seen another fail though.
well you guys know that some people out there will break anything you can give them.
Tony some people I know have broken Quaifes for the VW trans, but our design is different than yours....we have a splined output shaft and that is where it goes boom. But that was before the staging brake technique came into play.
The internals of the diff can handle anything we or anyone else can toss at it......

Before I bought my Quaife. I tried out my buddies welded diff. to see if that's a cheap route to go with or buy the real deal. I mean it's good for draggin but it turns like **** in turn that makes a drivablity problem. Especially on the streets. IMO

We had a spool last season (race car only) and this season i am trying to convice chuck to buy a quaife. Its safer, smarter, easier and in the long run cheaper after you have to keep buying parts that your precious solid difff. broke.
I have a quaife and handling alone makes me tell everyone to get it. Aside from drag racing (which unless you are going VERY fast it wont make a difference anyway) an lsd makes a huge difference in handling and steering. especially in a fwd car.
Just for reference our best 60 ft. pre spool was 1.66 with a stock gsr tranny...gears and all
after the spool and other tranmny mods (which deff helped)was identical...1.66.
Our best 60 ft. ever only came once we did other mods to the suspension.
The diff did nothing in my eyes except add reliability....anything is better then stock open for power. But the spool is so unsafe is rediculous. I wouldnt even get in a street car that had one.
You guys at jotech must be a top reseller for quaife. I spoke with another local shop here and they broke 2 with only 550 hp. we all know you are make 700+ but maybe you guys are just having good luck with yours I guess.
Just imagine going down the track and for some reason an axle breaks.........your headed directly into the wall. With a diff....anything catostrophic happens its still remains steerable. Spend the extra money.
