Default What are some times of cars w/o LSD

Please specify whether you have sticky tires or not and also in your own opinion when is it time to think about investing in a LSD.

Thanks

no lsd = no breaking differentials and less broken axles.

Brian's car was funny in Sonoma earlier this year when we had to swap his tranny (S80/GSR w/ Quaife) after he blew up his countershaft... Anywayz with the back up S4C (with no LSD) he launched and it just didn't pull even... It spins one wheel more than the other which sucks when you have a heavier car that just won't get movin... Don't get me wrong tho, there are plenty of people out there not running LSD's and still running 10's in SP/FWD... Peace

why not?

no LSD puts less stress on the axles because the power would be going to the tire with the least amount of traction (which would in turn put less stress on the differential/transmission). Less stress on the differential means less money

WHen you only spin one tyre you are placing uneven loads on the dif, single spinners definitely blow up gearbox's much more often. You would see a marked improvement in times, and transmission longevity with an aftermarkey LSD.

I typed that in a hurry but am not joking. I have blown 2 single spinners both times the gearbox was shot from the wreakage. And have heard the same story from others, spinning just one tyre puts more load or stress on the diff then spinning both.

I disagree I have seen and heard it it happen time and time again. I cannot give a scientific reason why though. Maybe someone else can <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by tegasaurus &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

Theres a gap between the cogs meshing, when the spinning side catch's up with the side that is gripping it will hammer the cogs. Resulting in fatigue. Think about the load coming on and off big jarring motion.

Note I am not arguing about the drive shafts .

Thanks guys i just have a huge traction issue and im only at 10 psi i plan on running around 18-20 psi and running bf drag radials on the front daily i got rock hard nittos on the front right now and was just curious as to LSD helping out in a huge way or not. So i there really any truth to the lacl of LSD blowing the gearbox apart or not??

From all of our experience like I said before we haven't had any problems blowing up our Quaife diffs, even on our high boost 500whp+ cars... We've broken just about everything else (countershafts, individual gears, FD gears, etc.) so I suppose that's a good thing... I guess it would have been better to blow up a diff over $1000 500whp axles, but when Duc broke those, they just gave him his money back... In the end it's up to you but it sure does make a difference
