Where to put O2 sensor in custom downpipe for an OBD0 car.
First off, here's the setup. 91 Civic HB, 94 B18C1, PM6 (88-91 Civic/CRX) ECU chipped with a B16 program running 1 oxygen sensor, Greddy TD05-18G with custom piping.
Originally the 02 sensor for this car was close to the exhaust ports..maybe 8 inches away. Right now I have a DC header on the car and the 02 Sensor is near the end of the header. The car runs fine now, but it does idle a little low when sitting in traffic sometimes. Since it's a heated sensor I'm wondering where I should put it in my downpipe. Should I leave it near the end, far away from the exhaust ports or put it closer so it will stay heated? Does it really even matter?
Thanks in advance.

I have mine parallel to the oilpan just after the turbo, and I put a wideband bung in the downpipe pointed upward just after the oilpan, before the firewall.
The 1 wires the OBD 0 cars have to use are unheated and need to be close to the head to be even marginally accurate. I'd suggest putting the 02 sensor SOMEWHERE int he downpipe BEFORE going under the oilpan if at all possible.
