the title basically states it. im looking at buying a used built block from another HT member. Its a d16z6 sleeved with GE godzilla sleeves. and bored out to 77mm, so roughtly 1.7L, it also comes with JE custom pistons. I plan to fun somewhere around 15lbs of boost with hondata, 440's and a fuell pump.
What sould i look for that would cause problems? Anything that seems to happen to GE blocks over AEBS or benson?
im not in anyway trying to "disrespect" the seller of the block its just that i've never had to deal with sleeved blocks before

arg, i know i should buy new but i cant really afford a new sleeved block. tuition was more than expected.
And i know earl will take care of me... i only have 3k at the moment and its kinda pointless to get a benson sleeved block and run a greddy kit on it. ya know? unlesss someone wants to give me 2k for a greddy kit!

I have been looking to buy a sleeved block for a while. But after reading all of the posts on honda-tech. I am very scared to buy a used sleeved block. I have read a lot of posts about GE sleeves sinking and that their customer service is not the best. I think if I were to buy a used sleeved block over the net it would only be from Benson(not trying to bandwagon) but I have never heard a bad thing about them and I think if something were to go wrong Earl would atleast work with you to get it fixed.

he's refering to my block. the block was fine and the car was running. it had ~4000 miles on it (local peeps here can vouch for it). but it spun a bearing about a month ago so it's been outta commission.

I just purchased a used GE sleeved block at the begining of this year and I went through the process of checking all the components after I bought it. You are taking a big risk by not seeing something like this in person. I personally would never buy a block again with out inspecting each component personally.
If you trust the seller and he is willing to check a few things I dont see a problem with buying this block. He needs to check all the clearences that would be checked on a regular basis when doing a honda rebuild. The best refrence would be the steps in a Helms as I am not going to take my time to list them all. I am referring to checking the deck height with a "precision straight edge" and feeler gauges to make sure none of the sleeves are sinking (per honda spec). Also make sure there are no cracks in the sleeves, crank and any other components... Proceed down the line such as checking to see if a line hone is needed and so on.
When selling a block over the internet and these things can't be checked by the buyer it seems that the seller would check those areas first if he intended to get a buyer.
