Default what to look for in engine damage from a turbo?

i have a 97 type R... i bought it used... the previous owner had a t3/t4 turbo boosting about 6 pounds, intercooler, deltagate wastegate, everything... he had it for about 5k miles and said he never pushed it because he didn't have internals yet and some other stuff... but he ended up selling the turbo and eventually the car... i bought the car and had a mechanic check the motor visually (NOT opening the motor up or anything) and did a compression test... he said the test was fine all across but aren't there different specs for a type-r? Also.... my car is stock with just AEM CAI and GSR's with bolt-ons hang with me ... i'm suppose to pull away from them right?.... also... i talked to another guy who boosted on his R and later (a couple thousand miles later) found out he had a cracked piston that he would have never have found if he didn't change them...
overall... i do feel my R doesn't run to it's fullest potential... and beforei start modding in... i want to make sure it's running at it's peak in stock form...

what else can i look for besides pistons and compression test to see if there's any damage to my motor that might keep it from running the way it should be? how much am i looking at here?
thanks in advance...

whats the compression look like it should be around i think if i remember 235. Do a leak down test also to check if your rings are okay etc.

leakdown test usually should runyou 60 bucks at most complete auto centers. If you still think its running bad take it to the dealership tell them to check it for you. If you compression is around 225 across that sounds good. Try resetting the ecu by unpluggin the negative cable for about 15 minuts and reattach.

if your compression numbers were up near 225 and it was all across, you sound okay. but defintiely get the leak down test done.

it's just risky buying any car that doesn't come from the factory in turbo charged form with an aftermarket turbo. seriously though, what chances are that this guy didn't abuse the car just a little.

if you're not pulling away from gsr's with bolt-ons and you consider yourself a good driver. there is definitely something wrong.

i totally appreciate your guys' posts... in regards to driving... i'm not a bad driver.... and i'm not the best either....

but yeah... i'm not pulling away from GSR's... and i even have AEM CAI too...

what makes me think the guy didn't abuse the car a little?.... well... i've been talking to the guy for about a month and a half before i bought the car... he seemed pretty knowledgable about turbos, and was aware of the high compression on the car... he said he also lacked certain monitoring devices that would allow him to really let it loose, one of these including an EVC that needed to be tuned.
I'm not saying that he didn't, and i'm not saying that he did... but i totally agree with the statement "what kind of guy gets a turbo and not try it out even a little bit before building up the motor..."

but i did the compression test before i bought it... had a mechanic check for any leaks visually... and everything was okay... but i never did a leakdown test...

in regards to taking it to a dealer... what do i say? and the car had the TLC package... does that get passed on to me as the second owner in which i could use to aid in my situation? I don't want to say... " yeah.. there used to be a turbo on this car.... can you check to see if there's anything broken?" i'm guessing that will void any warranty that i have... so...

you ask: did you run it hard
of corse he said no would you have bought it if he said yes
how many people buy turbo rs and not run them like they should
hard that is.
if it was set up right it should be fine though.

i totally understand your point of view... and he had reasoning not to as well... that's why i had the compression test done to it... and is sounded fine, ran fine... but at the time i bought it.... i didn't know how fast it was supposed to be... i drove a crx si before i bought this R,,,, soi it's hella lot faster than that...

also... i do believe the turbo was setup right so...
