you use gsr head studs
all the threads are the same between blocks. only diff is the length of the studs

WRONG!!!!!!
dont use b16 studs for a b16 head
it will be too short since the deck height on a b18 is higher

Ls/vtec requires gsr studs, end of story. But they are the same lenght as the ls, but just get an aftermarket set for piece of mind. ARP or GE or AEBS, they are all reliable.

ok I understand the popular belief of dont use B16 studs for the LS/Vtec even with a B16 head. So I have a set of B16 head studs and Im also doing a ls/vtec. So i wanted to confirm this "myth" or not. Then i proceeded to use a micrometer to measure the depth of the threads vs the length of the threaded portion of the B16 stud. and it tuns out the stud does use 99.5% of the available thread. the difference being .04 from completely bottoming out the stud in the block.
I will try to post pictures of what i did in a little while.
But even after my findings can someone beyond a doubt that these studs wont work....?
TIA

the ls studs are not the correct length. you need to use gsr headstuds.
ive used both arp and aebs, so i dont think you can loose with either. also aftermarket ones are ususally nostrectching and you can retq them a few times as opposed to the oe ones

ARP came out with studs for LSVTEC with GSR head and they were exactly the same as the GSR studs, but they were more expensive (smaller production runs). Once they realized that they were exactly the same, they discontinued that part number and now recommend the GSR studs if you use a GSR head and the B16 studs if you use a B16 head. There is really not much difference in length at all, so you could actually use the GSR studs with a B16 also.

dont listen to him. you are gonna pull the threads out of your block. trust me on that.
the correct stud to use is the GSR stud. the differance being in the deck hight of the block. the heads are the same it dont matter which b16 or b18c head you use on the LS or B20 bottom. ls heads need 2 longer center studs. b16 has a shorter deck hight and that is why the b16 stud is shorter. not because of the head.

I am 110% sure that they will work. If you can get the GSR studs, then just run those. They are the "official" LS/Vtec head stud. When I built my motor, the GSR studs where on an 8-10 week backorder from ARP and no one had any in stock, so we did a ton of measuring and discussing with ARP before just using the b16 ones. I have had B16 studs on my engine for the last few years and have had no troubles at all. I sent the specs after install to ARP and again, they reassured me that they had optimal thread engagement for that application.

The only way that I can see the threads being ripped out of the block is by an incorrect install where the stud is not threaded all the way to the bottom of the block or by overtorquing.
