compressor surge is when air trys to flow thru your turbo going the wrong way. Your BOV and wastegate prevent it from happening. The only way it happens with the BOV and wastegate being there is that you've maxed out the efficiency of your turbo (too small)

The line to the far left of the compressor map is the surge line. Now that you know that what surge is (wanted to make sure) If you do surge your turbo than you'll hear a fluttering noise oppose to your normal spool noise. Sorry no sound bit...surge doesn't happen alot and i doubt people record it!!

I know what it is, but I read that it sounds like a "cha cha cha", and I also read that the HKS SSQV's small valve sounds like a "cha cha cha" too. SO, I hear that kinda fluttering noise, but can't tell if it's surge or the SSQV?

My greddy type S makes a "cha cha cha" sound too when I'm near zero vacuum. I'm not sure what compressor surge really sounds like.

the spluttering of the BOV could be because of the vaccum source or the looseness of the sping it doesn't nessasarly have to be a surge!!! If there were a surge than your BOV would still make a 'chatter' noise. You shouldn' t be listening to your BOV for a surge you should be listening to your turbo mostly, and then comes your wastegate. Listen to all three and do a diagnostic according to all three. Sorry its hard to explain...and i'm not doing a good job. Good luck but this isn't gonna be a quick off the internet answer for you.

yeah i got an HKS ssq and it cha cha cha's at light boost light vacuum...

i have a feeling its fine.

but i do have to say this.

a friend of mine had an eclipse gst not modded except for blow off, (blitz super sound) and the adapter flange that plugs into the intake pipe broke a bit. the car started to flutter all the time.... but it didnt seem like anything was wrong it was just differnt... he brought it to my shop... i had him rev it while i was near the blow off...the sound wasnt coming from the blow off, and no air was coming out of the blow off.... it was coming out of the filter(cha cha cha) so i fixed it very easily but sealing the crack.... i guess air was leaking past the blow off and it wasnt working correctly.... not sure...

compressor surge talk for most honda guys is like the saying "you'll go blind if you ********** too much" its something we all know about and hear about... but no one for sure has(atleast not that i have seen) nuked a turbo from it on a street honda.

its definatly a concern, but its probably not happening
