When those two things occur what does the car do? Does it make a loud noise? Does it miss? Does white smoke come out of the exhaust? Can you detonate once / ping once and not mess up your engine? Thanks.. I NY

Its a light knocking noise on heavy load acceleration that gets louder the heavier the load. Technically, it is not a miss since the cylinder fired. White smoke is coolant burning or water vapor and does not tie itself to ping unless you blew the headgasket. You can detonate a little bit and the engine will survive, its the incessant knocking that will do damage. I would recommend NEVER allowing detonation if you can avoid it.
