Default What do u think of this d16 set-up?

I about ready to purchase a turbo kit for my d16 and i just wanted to see what everyone thinks about this set-up before i buy it. My goal is to have about 200hp with stock internals and hopefully building the engine over time. Vtec92civic is helping me set this custom kit up. Here are the parts:

Garrett t3/t4 50trim .48ar
Greddy type-s BOV
Tial 38mm wastegate
Log style mani (want to keep the a/c)
FM intercooler core size about 30"x6"x2"
Hondata s100
walboro 255lph fp
rc 440s

Tell me if you think i should change anything or use any different parts. Think the turbo would be about the right size for a daily driven street car?

The turbo seems a little big for a "street" car but it should give you some nice top-end power. it may take a bit to spool

What does everyone else think about 50 trim .48ar for a d16?

its not bad-my friends are trying to convince me to get that over a t3 60 trim with .48 turbine. id say that for the t3/t4 to be a wise choice, u should be running 10-15 or so psi. for anything lower like 8-12 psi, look into the aforementioned t3

t3/t4 is badd with turbo lag if ur using it at 10lbs. but if ur guna run on 5lbs and stuff u get it bad. also, a z6 or y8 tranny will help a lot. i had a cx tranny and blew it up...they suck.

T3/T04E 50 trim does not lag that bad. I have the 50 trim .63 and see full boost of 14psi by ~5100rpm on my D16. Stock head, intake manifold.

exactly... especially with a .48 hotside. liam821 ran a 46 trim (not much smaller) and the .48 hotside and he saw full boost around the same time i did on my t3 60 trim with .48 hotside.

but yah... the 50 trim has been proven to make good power on d-series motors. 5thgencivic, boosteded9, and AR Fab's sohc civic are just to name a few.

Umm i made 205 whp@6psi with that turbo and plan on 300+ at 15-18lbs of boost this summer when i upgrade to 650 injectors amd a few other goodies, im sorry but the t3 60 is not limited to low boost, i dunno where you got your information.....The t3 60 is a great turbo for the d series, fast spooling, pulls hard to redline +, it just works very well and is very efficent, but anyway im just sayin yur info isnt correct, thanks

I don't know what he's charging you, but I got a used greddy kit for my 97 EX for 900 bucks complete with sidemount intercooler, greddy type-s blowoff valve, tapped oil pan, blue box, etc. My kit is good for up to 250-260whp with proper engine management, and up to 180-200whp with the blue box and an upgraded fuel pump.

That's a good kit, but I suggest that you shop around if you're only looking for 200whp.

I will be using the Precision SC50 with .48 A/R on my D16, which is basically the same thing. It should be very fast spooling and capable of 350+whp. You don't need to run a log style mani to keep a/c. You can get an equal length made to fit. You can't use a full 3" down-pipe though, you have to flare it from 2.5" to 3" after it clears the compressor.

sorry if i mis-informed. what i remember from looking over compressor maps a while ago was the t3 60 trim starts to become in-efficient at around 18psi. that turbo has been said by more than a few people to be good for like just shy of 300whp before it starts to be inefficent, generating too much heat. oh, and i think your an exception to the rule cause you have a good amount of headwork done (whats your compression in your mini- me?)

I know some people are saying that the t3/t4 turbo would be a little big for my set-up. What do u guys think about a t3 super 60? Any input helps.

Do you ever plan on doing internals and going for more hp?

Building it or swap eventually.

Just get the bigger T3/T4 50 trim, it will give you room to grow when you build or swap. BTW, I would go with a built engine, more reliable and strong.

I still suggest a greddy kit for a goal of 200-250whp. It spools almost instantly, is reliable, allows you to retain a/c, and is CHEAP!

for 200hp the a little greddy setup would do you justice. if you want room to grow go with a t3/t04E. dont believe all the noise about lag with a t3/t04. if you go with a .48 a/r 50 trim with a stage 3 wheel you'll be set. also make sure you go with a 4E, the housing flows better.

I was really considering the greddy but custom seems like the way to go. In the end when my setup is complete it will be about the same price if not cheaper to go with the custom.

What about a gt28r?

Your custom kit can beat my $900 complete used greddy turbo kit? Have fun with that, after all H-T is Lowballers-R-Us...I'm sure you're bound to find something like I did.

Is the t3 super 60 the same as t3 60-1?

If he bought used parts also, yes. With new parts obviously not though.

i run the same turbo .48ar 50 trim with a log manifold

d16 with 8.5.1, and some mild headwork

3 inch downpipe and exhaust

boost at 3700, 5psi by 4100.

your car revs to at least 7200, it's just getting start at 4100, get the t3/4 , you wont be disapointed, it pulls hard at just 5psi.

15 is much better though

platinum.

set up sound great, with that turbo 200whp should be easily achievable. we maed 200 with a greddy kit on a sohc. it comes with a baby turbo.
