what clutch to use
ok i have a fully built block with sleeve and everything and the head has dual spring and retainer. i am going for 450-500 whp at the track and around 350 whp daily drive. yes it is gonna be daily drive and i need to get a clutch. right now i am using competion clutch stage 4 and it feels great so far. but i was thinking aobut going with twin disk clutch and not sure which one to go with. how is the competiong tiwn disk clutch? is it soft enough to drive daily? what would you guys recommend? thanks in advance.
This is not from **** i read on internet, but my own personal experience. I'm currently running a Competition Clutch Stage 5. Couldn't be more happy. Very streetable. Has seen probably 25-30 Passes at the track. And thats with 440hp. Hope this helps...
For the price it is hard to beat the CC Stage 5; however, all the cool kids buy twin discs
. I've heard they're more streetable, but again, i haven't ever run one. My CC Stage 4 is very streetable so i would imagine the 5 to be similar. I honestly like my CC 4 better than stock

Ran both stage 4 and stage 5 comp clutches. both will hold that power level but the stage 4 wont hold up to as much track abuse. Currently on an unsprung stage 5 with no complaints or problems. sprung feels no different on the stage 5, just a little less harsh on drivetrain
I dont mean to thread jack the OP, but here it is - I am building a 300-400 hp turbo toy, my shop suggested the CC Ironman 1680 Stage 3 clutch but the ceramic 1620 is significantly less expensive. Does anyone have personal experience with the ironman vs the ceramic? TKS
Go with the CC stage 5, you wont regret it.
I ran one for 2 1/2 years, and it had surprisingly streetable pedal feel for a clutch of that torque/holding capacity, and it more than held its own at the track with the numerous passes I put on it. I had the sprung disc.
Besides, your particular power goal doesn't even require a twin disc application, the stage 5 CC will handle the 350 to 500, no problem.

thats what has me a bit baffled... the ironman is significantly more expensive than the ceramic stage 4, and as stated, the LAST thing I want to do is get either of these clutches installed in the car and not be pleased with them... I would almost be homicidal I believe!!
