Default Weird Timing issue...not physically pulling timing

Ok so I was tuning a hatch on crome the other day and we started having weird issues with timing. First off we had tuned it a couple weeks ago on 9psi. Its a turbo gsr hatch and it put down 285whp on that boost level with no knock to be found(using det cans for listening). A few days ago we street tuned it on 12psi with his new boost controller and all of a sudden its knocking. Even on only 9psi. Whats strange is the knock isn't happening around peak torque..its happening around 7-8k rpms. Total timing on 9psi is only 15*...its low, but thats where it made mbt on the dyno. So i was like ok since its knocking now i'll just pull a little timing out. So i start by pulling a couple degrees. The knock doesn't go away. I pull a couple more...and still it doesn't go away. I pull even more...and still the same thing. In fact the car hasn't lost any noticable power whatsoever from pulling the timing. On the dyno it was definately losing power when i pulled timing. I even pressed "get" to download the .bin from the ecu. It showed that the timing had been lowered and the changes uploaded to the ecu. Even while datalogging the timing values in the datalog reflected exactly what i had in the tables. So i just kept pulling timing until finally i was literally at 0* of timing in the maps. The car still felt fast as hell. No noticable power loss whatsoever. I pulled this timing in all the cells from vtec crossover to redline.

I thought maybe it was an ecu thing so we tried another ecu...still the same thing. I even tried putting his ecu in my car and pulling timing out from my maps and my car lost plenty of noticable power from only a few degrees of retard. What the hell is going on here? Why is the actual timing not retarding to where I have it set? I even double checked his base timing at the dizzy and it was fine. Its like its just becoming in accurate in high rpms. Sound like a dizzy problem?

damn thats weird.

umm, maybe double check the dist didnt slip and advance itself....also maybe 2x over the dist wiring, maybe its frayed somewhere or something. im pretty stumped. hows the mechanical timing of the motor?
